Hi Guys,

I am a newbie here, but have been using this forum for some time and need some advice for an issue well covered here. I'm in South Africa, and we drive on the left (like the UK). I have 2 FIAT's an old 131 and a 2004 Stilo 1.9JTD(8V) with 96000km's on it. I am having a "Car Security, Loose connection fault" and the car will not start. After studying many threads on this issue, I have tried to sort it with the information that has been posted here. I have :

- Replaced the battery
- Replaced the Crankshaft Sensor
- Cleaned the D4 Connector
- Cleaned the 2 ECU Connectors
- Opened up the covers around the internal fusebox and checked connectors
- Bought a new battery for the key
- Tried the spare Key
- Checked and re-checked all earths with a meter
- Checked the antenna ring around the key

I believe this problem to be that the code is not getting to the Body Computer, and is inhibiting the car to start, am I right?

I downloaded FiatECUscan software but it won't connect to the engine management ECU (probably because the Body Computer is restricting it from operating) and I will have to purchase a licence as it won't connect to the Body computer without it. Will do that tonight...

I am unable to get it to a dealer, as the car is stuck in my garage, don't really trust the dealers.

Problem started intermittently and worsened to this point. The only work done on this car, recently, was an aircon recon as the aircon was making a noise and was overhauled and re-installed.

Can anyone help, I would greatly appreciate it.:D

Cheers

Steve

That's quite tricky and we've been there before

If you're sure the connections at the ignition switch aerial are ok

then i'd pull out, clean off and reinsert the other end of the antenna wiring which is connector A at the back of the body computer. C

I'd check the earth point C15

And then it's a case of checking the wiring from the BC through D4 to the ECU

Hi Deckchair5,

Thanks for the info, stripped the panel off the fron of the fusebox, going in but it does look like major surgery to get the BC out. Lots of plugs and cable retainers, think I should try fiddle the plugs without removing it?

Cheers
Steve

It's only that one plug that you're interested in so if you can disconnect it without the total brain surgery then that's the way to go

It's odd though that FES won't connect and that points to BC to ECU comms problem

Re: Loose Connection Car security Failure - stuck relay

Hey there Deckchair,

Phew, quite a thing, but I did what you suggested with no change. My missus brought me some tea, while I was working under the dash, and asked me what the funny buzzing sound coming out of the battery fuse box was. I went to check, and found a stuck relay:bang:! Not knowing which one it was, I gave it a bang and reinserted it into it's holder. The ignition then worked!

I then went to the manual and discovered it is the ECU relay, which feeds it power. I did some more checks and when I remove it, I can reproduce the fault. I swapped it with the aircon blower relay (they looked the same and the numbers on them was the same) and it seems okay now. I will test it over the weekend, and buy a new one anyway.

This morning I re-assembled the car, as I had the thing stripped down quite a bit looking for the fault, and remembered on this forum somewhere, siomeone did actually have the same problem (Damn!).

Thank you for your help, and advice, I really appreciate it:worship:. I want to do some suspension work soon, and may ask for some suggestions on that, I will make a new thread for that one.

Anhow, got the missus to fetch me a couple of beers, as I have been working on this for some time, and enjoyed the moment....

car security failure loose connection is a TDC sensor gone on the ecu unit. This has just happened to my 1.6 16v stilo and is now back is back up and running.

This might help me also, same sort of fault, car will be driving and all of a sudden will idle then cut out, loose connection, asr and car security will appear on the dash and whilst the car security light is on car won't restart, at dealers now and have advised them off the above recommendations!

I know it's been a long while ago, but did they fix your problem? And if so, what have they done?

I have the same problem, someone managed to solve it?

I am having a "Car Security, Loose connection fault" and the car will not start.

I have FiatECUscan software but it won't connect to the engine management ECU (probably because the Body Computer is restricting it from operating)?

Thanks!
