Hi bought my Jtd a few months back its got 73k on the clock. The previous owner told me that the timing belt had been done. I asked him if anything needed done to the car and he said that the tensioners would need done soon. Now at that time i didnt know what the tensioners were and i didnt want to ask to look stupid but i guess i should have now.

So do you think he had the timing belt only changed and not the tensioners? I know theres alot of labour time taking the engine apart etc so i cant exactly get a garage to check if they need changing might aswell just buy them and get them to change them? There are two types of tensioners on shop4parts fixed and adjustable which 1 do i need or do i need both? Suppose i should get a new water pump aswell.

Or do you think he was talking about the aux tensioners? When do they need changed? and what are they for?

Lot of noob questions thanks for the advice.

Hi,
I would just change the lot, seems a bit odd just to change the belt and nowt else! Maybe they were just tight !!:D
www.buypartsby.com are mega cheap for timing belt kits, i bought one a few months back and it was £70 delivered for a complete kit. The make was continental they are fitted to alot of german cars as an oem part.

Cheers,

Im thinking of biting the bullet and getting the whole lot done, I duno if the previous owner changed the tensioners or not but i suppose its not worth the risk of 1 failing.

I take it i get everything i need in the kit on shop4parts?

Anyone know if the waterpump on shop4parts is the uprated 1 with the metal propeller?

The kit is £77 on shop for parts and the water pump £45 so if anyone knows anywhere better. Theres a kit on buypartsby with a water pump for £85 but im not sure if its the right one for my car or if it includes everything i need.

I think the garage near me charges £25 per hour labour which from reading on the forum is very cheap, I dont know if they are any good or not they done a good job of tracking my wheels and seem very busy but they are mainly a tyre centre so im not sure.

All help appreciated.
