We have a 2005 Stilo JTD Multiwagon and for the last few days I could hear a rattle coming from the boot area when driving on the many terrible road surfaces we have here in the Black Country. :(

Do to replacing the rear bushes recently I was concerned so instantly stuck my head under the car to check eveything was ok. I'm pleased to say everything was as it should be. :D

I sat in the front seats and listened.
Couldn't pinpoint where the sound was coming from.

I sat in the back seats and listened.
Couldn't pinpoint where the sound was coming from.

So I climbed in the boot , got the missus to drive around the block and I finally discovered where the rattle was coming from.:woot:

The lock of the tailgate. :(

Not sure why but when driving on a rough road surface the tailgate vibrates just enough to cause a rattle from the tailgate lock and the loop it locks onto.

Is there a way to adjust this and stop the rattle?

I have just adjusted the tailgate on my 3dr by slackening the door "retaining hoop" and tapping it inwards to take out the slack.
A bit hit and miss but it does the trick eventually. I would think it's the same sort of adjustment on the MW - definitely nothing sophisticated ;)

Thanks I'll try it now. (y)

Edit
Took 2 minutes to adjust the retaining hoop, just took her for a drive NO rattle. Thanks Peat. :worship:
