Other than finding a Fiat dealer that knows what they are on about, is there an easy way of finding out whether there are any recall notices affecting my Stilo?

I've just bought a 13 month old 1.6 Active with just over 14,000 on the clock. It's an ex National Car Rentals motor and had only covered 6 miles between being serviced in February and me picking it up last Fiday. Looking at the service book it was serviced by the company who manage the National fleet rather than a Fiat dealer so doubt that any recalls would have been followed up.

If it was serviced by a non-Fiat dealer doesn't that invalidate the warranty? From what I have heard and read it does.

Purplemonday - Drop me an e-mail with your chassis number and I will find out at work for you whether there is a recall outstanding specifically for your car. E-mail me at [email protected]

Well I finally had a reply from Fiat today and what do you know - warranty invalidated!!

Apparently I can get it revalidated so they are sending all the forms etc through, but they did mention that if Eu:ROFLMAO:eet/Inchcape used genuine Fiat parts then it won't need revalidating.

This warranty business gets better - Fiat want me to pay £23.50 for what appears to be the transfer of the warranty into my name and then if it does need re-validating then they require an additional £60 for the privilege.

Needless to say I ain't paying that out yet as Stoneacre sold me a Stilo with warranty and therefore they should be paying out to get this sorted.

as far as I am aware there is no obligation to have your servicing done at a fiat dealer, under eu law you only have to ensure that the servicing is of the same standard as would be done at a fiat dealer so fiat parts must be used and the same service schedule used however i would figure that if you make a claim proof would have to be provided that this was done. I would also think it would be unreasonable if fiat refused warranty work on anything that was not touched in the service schedules. I reckon your best bet would be to check this out with your local tradings standards office

Just gone through the warranty registering lark. My Stilo too was an ex fleet car with 12 on the clock. It had been serviced but not by Fiat. I sent a photocopy of the service record and a cheque for £23.50. All went through ok and now I have the new warranty card. Matters not apparantly who serviced it prior to this.

If its under manufactuers warranty then as long as the garage is VAT registered It does not matter where the services are carried out, as long as they replace the parts required. E.g Air filter, Plugs ect. But If it an extended warranty then they can specify where you must get the car serviced, some are picky some not, but always read the small print..

The OFT investigated the whole issue of warranties and servicing and issued a report in December. Some manufacturers had limitations, some didn't. The OFT are supposed to be looking into it again this month. Lets hope they decide it is unfair/uncompetitive to limit our choice of garage and make some changes.

Hi

I must admit, I'm finding all this warranty stuff a bit strange. My car is an ex-Fleet car, perchased at Inchcape Vauxhall. They serviced it (apparantly with FIAT approved parts) at 13,094miles (Sidwell Street, my FIAT dealer, tells me FIAT allow a +- 1000 miles allowance).

Since that lovely day when I got my crystal green baby, it's been in about 20 times for different things. Out of the warranty I've had a set of new headlights fitted, new rear light cluster, 3 new door trims, loads of trim bits, mechanical bits e.t.c, and not to mention about 15days worth of labour!!! Sidwell St have NEVER asked me for my warranty book, or who it was serviced by or anything like that; everytime it goes in, the Workshop Job Sheet says "Account - NC01 New Car Warranty" or something to that effect.

It must help being good friends with the service and parts department (but their Sales department is full of w*****s!!!)

Oh, and my letter to the MD of FIAT came back today; Customer Care had intercepted it, and assured me that "we are treating your case with the utmost care and urgency, and that Mr Massimo Toso (must be Italian for Maximum T0$$£R) is very concerned with my problems". I'm sure he is.

Hi

All that warranty stuff is strange cos my 52 stilo was also an ex enterprise car rental car with 12k on the clock when i bought it, and its still covered by the fiat warranty despite it being serviced by enterprise and not a main fiat dealer.

2002 Stilo 1.6 Active, almost debadged and i have big plans!!!

feck me! Airbag recall for 01/10/01 to 01/10/02 models, mines a march 02 as well and yet there has never been any recall letter issued (and we got one for the Punto over the brake pipes issue)
But going by the issue date of May time, maybe its been resolved already since we got it in august
