![]() | ![]() Checked my oil today and it was about half, took a trip to halfords to buy 5L of 0w-40 mobil....20% off atm when i got to halfords, it was pretty low...and there was steam (i think) coming from the dip stick hole, and oil filler...it wasnt gushing out, just whisping when i opened it...coolant isnt low, took about 1.5L of oil...just want to know whats happening? if its anything to worry about? not worried about the oil consumption, its the only top up ive had to do in about 4 months, and its driven allot, over 12k done in about a year...

Give the oil the time to return to the sump after running. When you checked the level before it was halfway (0.5 L) and after you drove to Halfords it needed 1.5 Litre? You might have overfilled! gr J

The tube going from the engine into the inlet control valve releases the pressure. If this one is clogged, pressure will rise up the dipstick, but I don't think that's your problem - but worth ruling out. On an earlier car I had there was a brass filter in this tube with really big oily deposits that required cleaning. Eventually I cut it off and put a little KN filter there. ![]() ![]()
