I own a 2002 fiat stilo 1.2 3dr with the active sub woofer in the boot. now from what ive read all the speakers are unbranded bose which was an upgrade option at purchase.

anyone know the spec of the speakers??rms peak etc?

thanks

well im wondering about it for upgrade purposes, if the component are any good maybe i could hook them to an amp to give them more juice, if there sh*t then ill look into a full component upgrade.

I think the speakers are the same as normal my rears certainly appear to be. I still havnt had the fronts out to have a look. I have also heard that they are bose.

If money is tight im sure you could put a reasonable amp on them. Alpine do a small add on unit that plugs inline with the ISO block that give about 45w RMS iirc., but i think they only work with alpine HU's.
If not im sure you could use something up to 60w RMS with the gains at a sensible level.
I still need to build my speaker pods but i could do a destruction test at some point in the Future which may tell a bit more about the capabilities of the speakers. I can give them 60w, 105w and 360w a piece

nice! would love to see how that goes, would tell me how much juice i can add to the factory speakers and of they are up for the job,my current head unit says 60watt x4 but you can never tell if thats just marketing, more than likely. in fairness the system sound is brill but just wanna see what more i can get outta it. if its not much then ill upgrade.

if its up to the test i might just leave the stock speakers in a buy more speaker to go in the doors with em :p

ive checked ours a little while back the wife has the bass box option and the speakers in hers are identical to mine, the only thing she has extra other than the bass box in the boot is tweeters in the back - ours are both multiwagons.

i run my speakers off a kicker amp, the only reason why i done this was i needed dual zone so the kids could watch a movie in the back whilst i listened to the radio / mp3s in the front, the kicker done the job fine, i just got a generic iso block to connect the speakers to the amp then iso to the back of my pioneer hu.
tbh the speakers fiat supplyed in the cars are not the best, but they are pretty good, they do take a bit of thrashing before they start to distort, i could probo do with bigger speakers in the car but what aint broke as the old addage goes, and my infinity bass box with built in amp takes up the slack where the speakers lack. plus as you get a bit older you dont need the music as loud funny enough lol

Are you sure the speakers are identical Roy because I'm sure I read somewhere you get a full speaker upgrade if you choose the Hi-Fi option when ordering the car.

The mounts are identical but I thought you were supposed to get meatier units :chin:

well mate, the upgrade must consist of extra tweeters and the bass box as the speakers are identical in both cars, when i had my oem stereo in the car they also sounded the same with the bassbox in her boot disconnected.
i actually swapped one over with mine to try it out when i had both door cards of and there was nowt difference between the two,

Thats because the signal from the HU go's straight to the amp inside the sub Box and is then redirected to the speakers.
Im a bit skeptical as to what you actually got with the Upgrade package as the Amp inside the sub box certainly doesnt look like a 5 channel so i cant see that it is boosting the power to the normal speakers.

I only made that comment from reading this thread Roy

when i purchased my car it seemed the whole amp in the sub box had been bypassed and the all speaker run off the head unit. not sure why this was done. thans for the link Argonought some good info in there.

From what i am reading it seems that the bose speakers look to be pretty decent and hooking them up to an amp will justify them much more.

As from reading the other thread it seems that the best option is this:

- if you have the upgraded bose speakers, keep them they are pretty darn good
- to get the most out of em get yourself an amp to power em
- get a nice boot build 2 subs/amp etc
- put high/low pass filters so that the bass is all coming from the boot and theres nice clarity from the front speakers

combining all this should make for a great sound system that is very clear and also gives great bass

Seem like a good and relatively cheap way of getting the most from the system I have so I am gonna try it.

Only thing I really need to know now is what type of amp/how many channel amp I need to run the bose speakers in my stilo?

thanks all

If you want the normal ones, 4 channel.

To get the sub running too, 5

You only really need 1 good sub.

The New Amplifier will have x-overs so no need to add any Filters. Adding a passive could be beneficial but a lot of work.

Leave the rear speakers running off the amp that they are now and get a 2 channel for the fronts. (You dont want the rear anywhere near as loud as the front as it ruins the stage.

1 amp for the sub.

Add sound deadening to the front doors and boot.

Ok so i had the whole front apart at the weekend. I havnt seen a standard Mid Bass woofer for a good couple of years but initially the only thing that i could see different was the colour of the pod.
The tweeters do look more beefier than i remember in my old cars non upgrade system.

I sound deadened the left door and as standard the quality did improve a little. On test the mid bass hardly move before the head unit starts to distort. The surrounds are a little weedy so they will never have a huge X-max and will always struggle to play well below 100hz IMO, but im sure that a bit more power would get them moving a little more air.

I need to work out were im putting the Huge relay on my battery bay before i can start powering up amps. I am going to start on the speaker pods very soon so i can the perform the destruction test and whip the new speakers in after. But as soon as as i get all that done i will fire up the amps and see what they can take.

that would be brill! great info would love to see what the speakers can take to see ig its worth while keeping them and adding an amp so look forward to your results, thanks
