Hi

Hope someone can help. I have a 2004 Stilo 3 door active. I took it in for a major service as it is now at 130k kilos on clock. The mechanic changed the clutch system and advised me that I also needed to change the timing belt. He carried out the whole "changes". But now when I went to fecth the car the engine does not start. There is a "loose connection" error. The mechanic says he has put everything in its place but the car stil wont start. Can someone please give me some advise??

Cranksensor Ok?
What sometimes happens when you start the engine cold and turn it off after a few seconds is flooding. Removing fuses (17 and 21?) near the battery while starting for a few seconds with the fuelsystem off (since you removed the fuses) makes it OK to start afterwards.

"Cranksensor Ok?"

According to the mech. all sensors have been tested and are OK, he said he is going to check the "transponder aerial" on the ignition

The mec has checked everything, well thats what he says, but the car is still not starting. Car went to Fiat for recoding, I don't know of what and still no joy. I gave him the spare key to try and start it with but still no difference...I am really desperate now as this my only mode of transport...The error message still reads "car security" then loose connection. Apparently it sometimes does start and then after they switch it off and try to satrt it again it doesnt.

I got the same problem and in my case the cause refers to serial communication malfunction by ignition. As soon as I press the ECU connectors by hand the communication is reestablished and the fuel pump start working and the engine may be started. In my oppinion the ECU pcb has somewhere a micro-crack determined by vibrations and material failure. Because an ECU replacement seems to be expensive I intend to examine the pcb first and resolder at least the connection pins. A schematic will help but I did not found it, maybe someone have it and post it. Come later with the results! Thanks a lot!

Whoo hoo, just got a call from the mech. The problem has been identified and sorted. Apparently it was the " body control module" not really sure how true that is:rolleyes:...however he says the problem might resurface. Thank you everyone for a great forum, he probably had luck because of all the usefull info I had printed from this site(y)

Engine fault, car jerks and cuts at 3000rpm's

Hi all,

I seriously have problems with my Stilo 1.6 3 door 2004.

1. Car went in for major service, cam belt change and new clutch kit...
2. Everything was assembled however the car didn't start after that. It gave a " loose connection, car security" error.Problem was rectified after two weeks and mechanic siting "body control module". I fetched the car three days ago but after getting on the highway the car started jerking and cutting at 3000rpm and then gave an "engine failure" fault!
3. Took the car in to a diagnostic machine this morning and it says there is a misfiring at cylinder 3. After the diagnose the mechanic took it for a quick test drive and came back saying the car drives OK.
I took the car and drove it as well and indeed I could do 6000rpm's without any problems.
As I hit the highway again SAME PROBLEM reappeared, Car jerks at 3500rpm and the "engine failure" error came back.

I am really at a loss as to what could be the problem. :bang:
