Hi. I have a Fiat Stilo Dynamic 02 plate.

A couple of weeks ago the key fob stopped working, so i have had to get in and out thru key into lock. I went to a locksmith who said that he wasnt happy to change the battery in fob unless i had manual to state how many seconds he has to do it in - so i hunted for manual and took it to locksmith (no timescale quoted), but he said that nothing wrong with fob battery as red light was still on - not even dim.

I have rung fiat and they have quoted £70 just to book in, and then if they have to apply for key codes it will cost another £125 plus charge for doing it.... Seems an awful lot of money, but i am purchasing another fiat in a few weeks and obv need to get key fob sorted b4 i can sell.

can someone offer any advice or where i can get said codes and do myself? PLEASE HELP!

I only have the blue fob - was not given any others when i purchased car.

Thanks
Karen.

Hi Karen I have had a similar issue with my keys, the one with the remote features opens all the doors but wont start the car, the one without the remote does start the car so I have to carry both.

When I went to my local dealer I had to pay £30 to get the code for my car, are you absolutely sure you dont have this? It is supposed be passed on when the car is sold, although in reality that doesnt always happen. I was then quoted £44 for half an hour labour to reprogram the keys. They said they need both keys present to do this.

In my case, they couldnt reprogram my key so I ended up paying £74 for a piece of paper with the code of my car on it, but it was a chance I took and they did spend way more than an hour trying to sort it out for me.

My only option now is a new key for £199 plus VAT. I doubt I will bother.

I went to local locksmiths and they all quoted pretty much the same price for a new key as the main issue seems to be that they will be sourcing the key itself from a Fiat Dealer and charging the same as Fiat do to program it.

It is however worth trying other dealers as there doesnt seem to be a set price and it looks like you were quoted for one hour labour which is ridiculous if it just needs reprogramming.

Edited to add, if the red light is still flashing (as mine does) it could be the transponder that isnt working, that was the issue with mine and when they put it on the computer they kept getting a message that the key had been 'deleted' from the system, but if yours was working prior to this then I see no reason why they cant reprogram it.

Disconnect the car battery...leave for a bit...connect back up press key fob and this might just work for you (it did for me and many others)

For more info and solutions use search well documented on here and when I did have my stilo this helped see post #12.

 I dont even know where the battery is located  and my concern is that when I find it and disconnect it, I will reconnect it and every error message known to Fiat will come on and I will wish I had left well alone. My old sweetie is error message free right now and I like it that way!

Whats the worst that can happen here if I disconnect it?

Pretty much nout could go wrong with disconnecting the battery you will have to reprogramme the clock etc but she will be fine trust me...the battery is located under the bonnet:p to right if you're facing the car....use a 10mm socket ... remove the 3 nuts and then a 10mm spanner to remove the battery just disconnect the positive feed and leave it for 30mins and fingers crossed when you put it back together key fob works:worship:

If it does all hail Esse:D:D:D:D:D

TY. Tried that. Didnt work:cry: Still could work for Karen though, Fiat did tell me that my key had been deleted off the system and couldnt be 're-found'. Thank you for trying to help me.

Just buy another battery from Tescos as I did. Flick out the key, half a turn with a flat blade screwdriver. lift out the battery holder and make a note of the battery code. I found them on the shelf. Replaced mine in seconds. Dont worry too much about the time it takes you to get the replavement back in as they are pregrammed via an e2 prom. Its a chip with a static memory. I wouldnt leave it for days but a few minutes messing about isnt going to do any harm.

Or did you already try this?

The battery in mine is fine, it locks and unlocks everything, it just wont start the car, it unlocks the steering, turns over but just doesnt start. I have to use the other key that doesnt have the remote features on it to start the car.

I read somewhere here that the transponder part of the key fob ( the bit that tells the car to start) works independently to the remote functions on the key fob. Its the transponder on mine that wont work.
