Hi everyone

I was driving normally and went over a small-ish pothole and the airbag failure message appeared on my Stilo 02 5dr. Since then, it hasn't disappeared and I've tried wriggling the wires under the seats but hasn't done anything.

Before I rush out and buy contact cleaner (as per the guide), is there an easy way to test which airbag connector could be causing the problem, assuming of course it is a connector problem.

Could I possibly disconnect the orange connectors individually then turn on the ignition to see if the error message disappears? Or would it still throw up the error even if all orange airbag connectors are disconnected? I want to try and eliminate all of the connectors before I take it to the garage tomorrow.

Thanks

I just vacume under the seats mostly dust dirt that sets them off or even times when the seats moved back thats how stupid it is after a clean tho there fine

Just for information.. took the car to the garage and they've had a look at it. They've replaced all of the connectors for each of the airbags but that hasn't resolved the problem. They said they've had a look elsewhere on the car but they are at a loss. The Mechanic doesn't think an airbag has failed but certainly cannot get to the root of the problem. They suggested I take it to Fiat.

Just great. I'm out of pocket for their fees and still non the wiser. No doubt Fiat will do everything they can to bleed my wallet dry.

Darn MOT is due shortly too so I just hope this won't be an MOT failure.

have you cleaned the connections yourself ?

No but I had the garage do it. I was talking to them about it being a common problem, which they already knew about, and they said they'll do the connections first before trying anything else.

I don't know what they did after doing the connections but they said they "stripped the car" and still can't find out what could be causing it. (n)

hmmm they said they stripped the car maybe a little exageration sounds to me like they just gave up and said anythin, what type of connection is it under your seats is it a crimp connection or the plug connection?

As far as I know, the same orange connection as on the pictures of the guide.

Ok before you take the car to fiat unplug the battery, unplug air bag connections & spray some electrical cleaner on the connections then let it dry plug the battery back up and see if that works

If you get no joy with any of the guides then Fiat did a part loom to replace the old connecors and cure the problem..its DET fit only iirc..part was about £30 when they first did it but no doubt its dearer now + fitting..:(

I remember fiat tellin me i need to change the whole loom its a good job i didnt listen to em that would of cost a bomb. In the end i just cut the plugs and connected the wires via crimp connectors

Just picked the car up from the garage and they said if I want it fixed, I'll have to take it to Fiat to replace the loom. He said it isn't an MOT failure and the airbags will still deploy in an accident.

He personally recommended I just leave it as is.

I asked him how much the damage is to my wallet and he replied "I don't bloody know. The boss is out, so just go. We'll call if you owe us anything" :D

Have you tried cleaning the connectors above the rear suspension, behind the little cubby holes? They were the ones causing the error in mine and it would make sense in your case, if it started straight after going over a bump.

I'm going to clean them all today and see what happens.

Watching this thread closely as we are having the same issue with my sons car. I have located the plugs above the rear suspension and the one under the passenger seat, where are the rest? I bought the contact cleaner yesterday and did the three that I know about, made no difference.

Meanwhile taking the advice on a different thread by pressing the mode button twice after starting the car each time to stop the constant beeping.

I believe there is another one in a little compartment, at the top of the lower glove box.

I assume there would be one under the drivers seat also?

Did you disconnect the battery when you were doing it?

TY found the one under the drivers seat, not sure about this glove compartment one, do I have to start unscrewing things?

So there are 6 airbags and 5 connectors?
