I have read back through some old threads on this and I am more confused. I need to replace the front brakes and discs. My local mechanic doesnt like Fiats and is giving me the feeling that he will charge me top prices just to prove his point.

I have seen some brake and pad packages on Ebay but I was told the noise Im getting was due to cheap pads, so I dont want to buy cheap and have the problem return. I also want the safest option.

I dont want to get ripped off so Im thinking I should buy the pads and discs that you guys recommend and just pay someone to fit them ( if anyone here who can do the job let me know).

What are my options?

Ill get those, thank you for your help.

Just to give you a little more info on stilo brakes the rears on all the models excl the MW [iirc]use the same size as well..should you need those in the future..:D

Didn't want to start a new thread but i'm after some new brakes myself. Don't want manufacture discs or pads - was thinking along the lines of:

Discs
- Black Diamond Front Combi Discs (Drilled & Grooved) 257mm x 22mm Vented
- Black Diamond Front Grooved Discs 257mm x 22mm Vented

Pads
- Black Diamond Front 'Predator' Fast Road Pads
- Ferodo DS Performance Brake Pads
- EBC Red Stuff Brake Pads

whats best combination of the above or are there better combo's out there? Also are brake pad sizes different for all stilos or is it one size only?

thanks

Save your money and get normal discs and pads you can only stop as fast as the abs will let you.

I've found that better discs and pads have a positive effect on braking. Things like initial bite in particular. On ds performance on an alfa 156, the initial bite was much better than on stock pads, also, on stock pads a hard stop from high speeds fried a set of pads in 2 or 3 goes, perf pads didn't!

Plus drilled or grooved pads look cool behind alloys!

They do. :D It's a nice thing about these grooves aswell, they seem to throw away brake dust (after the brake change I got the alloys 100% clean and they still look the same - this picture shows the alloy before the nice hot bath, covered in brake dust from the OEM pads.)
