This is the car my son bought yesterday. 1.2 Active, 47,000 miles, 02 plate, 2 previous owners, JVC CD player, perfect first car. There are a few superficial bumps and scratches on it and the airbag warning beep was staying on but we sorted that out thanks to info we found here. The spare wheel has never been used, old MOTS present and it was £1150. Taxed till July MOT till sept.
Only one key but we used that issue whilst haggling. There were MOTHBALLS in it, so it smells a bit odd right now but my son is pleased and his insurance quotes, compared to insuring my 1.6 Dynamic are coming back at £500 LESS. I found him sitting in it eating his cereal this morning. Bless him.

Very very nice, I wish i had a stilo as my first car.

Then again you cant be a 15 year old desiel corsa =P for a first.

Good luck to your son and im sure he'll love it!

Looks clean and tidy :)

If you don't mind me asking how much is your son paying for his insurance? My 1.6 costed me around £800 with two years no claims. Then again - I was switching over from my 1.2 Punto :p

Right? I worked my way up from a Panda because I couldnt afford to insure or run anything else! In fact I had two in a row then an Uno.

Right now he is still reeling from spending that much money in one go on something that wasnt a Mac or a Plasma screen, cars are new territory and hes saying he doesnt care what it looks like and isnt bothered - but I know my son and once he gets a taste for it and starts to pay attention to what others are driving I think he may get more interested in it. So watch this space!

Ha ha Lucky lad. My first car was a Renault 5 campus which cost me £900. Kids get so much more for their £ now days. God i sound so old but i only got my first car 7 years ago lol.

He is a completely new driver, the best quote he has found is £1400, same company was £1,900 to insure mine. He is 23. My youngest who is 17 is getting quotes that range from £5000 - £15,000!! This is third party only.

He did find one company that offer a lower rate if you have a box in the car that records how often you drive it, how you drive, brake, speed etc and will give you that rate if you prove to be a sensible driver.

I am paying £384 fully comp with protected no claims (11 years) and £100 voluntary excess on my 1.6 Stilo so it sounds like you have a pretty good price there. Im with Sheilas wheels who told me they DO insure men or at least they are prepared to add my sons to my policy.

Driving for a 17 or 18 year old is not worth it now.

When I passed my test I was driving my nan's car for a year at £650 for the year as a second driver.

Now it cost £2000 even if your a named driver as they are stopping people from lying to the insurance to allow their children to drive cars that the parents don't actually drive. How an insurance company can think a 17 year old will do £15,000 pounds worth of damage I don't know.

And im only 21 lol =P my insurance at the moment is £1065.

My 17 year old said the same thing this morning but I think its got more to do with reckless driving and the threat to life and limb not just the car which is often worth much less than the insurance quote and in the case of third party only is not even covered anyway.

They are basically insuring you against the potential damage that you could do to other people which can run into millions in insurance claims.

I got a £2000 payout 12 years ago for a whiplash, she pulled out in front of me without even looking in my direction, my son who was 5 was in the back asleep and it woke him up and gave him bad dreams for a few nights - his payout for that was £700. We also got the value of the car that was totalled. Compare that to mounting the pavement and running a few people over or causing a motorway pile up and you can see why its so expensive. It takes time to prove you are a safe driver and first time older drivers are seen as less likely to be reckless.

I guess in comparison I am getting a pretty good price considering I am 21!

Give him a few months and he will soon be modding up the car :p I am looking to do a few mods to mine :)

Yeah it is a high risk new driver just don't see where insurance companies think a 17 year old can get 15,000 from lol.

No, named driver driving isn't always lying, only if your fronting ;)

I was only £300 in my first year of driving as a named driver at 17 back in 2006. Would probably be the same now, again, its all to do with the car, but fronting and being a named driver is a totally different topic so I'll shut up now lol.

LOL West London. I can see the similarities with Afghanistan sometimes....

:ROFLMAO:

Exactly basically they are saying you cant drive unless your loaded lol

No, they're saying that statistically your more likly to have an accident becaue of several factors, of which your age, car and driving experience are only a few.

Where you live has an equal bearing on it. I've unfortunatly not got the best of driving history, 3 points, about 3 none fault accidents (2 where I was rear ended) and one at fault accident involving a £90k merc. Currently at 21 with the above, and no NCB as a result of the at fault claim, and I'm only paying £800 exacty fully comp for the year on a group 10 insurance car.

Luckily I live in one of the lucky post codes hence the price. If it were where I used to live in London I could quite believe that being around the £3k mark.

Ultimatly insurance is to cover a risk, and if from experience you pose a higher risk for any reason, you'll pay more ;)

My dad Paid £87 fully comp on a Panda the year before last. Now that makes even me want to cry! :p
