So i want to change the oil on my car and upgrade to some higher quality oil. Once that's done i'd like to run an engine flush the clean out as much as i can keeping it running smooth.

Once that's done i want to clean to inlet control valve out and give the engine bay a good cleaning and shine her up!

So first off, i have my new oil filter ready but i need some oil to replace to the old stuff with, can anyone reccomend good 5w40 oil for a stilo. Looking for something of a higher quality as i'd like the car running sweet. Suggestions please.

Secondly, where is the inlet control valve on a stilo 1.4? Had a look around the bay but can't seem to see anything obvious. Is it where the end of my GSR induction fits in by any chance? Can someone help me and let me know how to get it off to clean or the best way of going about cleaning it. Cheers.

Thirdly, how to change the oil properly.

Jack up car on axle stands
Drain oil into bucket completely.
Fit new oil filter
Measure how much was drained and replace with new oil.

Is that it? Guides and locations of where to drain the oil from would be of great help thanks guys.

Lastly, engine flush. What to use and where to get it from? Any ideas?

Looking to do this sunday so responses are sought after.

Thanks guys.

I'd use 10W40 Semi synthetic personally.

I woudn't worry about these posh oils, tbh they're not as good as theyre made out to be. Regular changes are whats best.

I'd go for a reputable brand from your local motor factors, like comma oil etc (y)

Replacing oil, no point measuring whats drained as you won't get it all out, and it probably isn't full before draining either. Just fill gradually with new oil and regularly check dipstick. And before draining, ensure engine and oil are warm, helps the oil to drain better (y)

Engine flush, is this oil flush or coolant? TBH I again wouldn't bother with a flushing agent in the oil as this can do more harm than good, I'd just do a short oil change if the current oil is that dirty/lumpy (i.e. change it again after only 1500-2000miles). The new oil should remove the crap fast enough.

Jon.

As Jon says, I'd avoid flushing. And if you must do it, you flush before you change to the new oil, not after!

A semi- or fully-synthetic oil is best, unless your engine is very old and done a very high mileage.

Make sure you get an OEM oil filter, to avoid "low pressure" warnings. There is quite a lot of oil going into the filter, so don't measure what comes out. Refill is about 4 litres I guess.

Ok so ill either use 10w40 semi or 5w40 fully depending on what i buy.

Where do i drain the oil from?

Inlet control valve? Where? How to clean?

Thanks guys

The sump plug is at the back of the sump; takes a 12mm hex key. You'll have to remove the undertray if its still there too.

Just use what the book says. I put in Selenia K 5W40. The car has never run smoother... and I mean quieter, you can sense that. I previously put in Selenia 20K, my biggest mistake was that I put in some Castrol Magnatec C3 5W40 and it came out thin and black as coffee just 5000 kms later… and I am on LPG. If you check the technical spec on the selenia oil you would see that it has a higher TBN and Viscosity Index than some top branded fully synthetic oils and it was specially designed for a fiat engine and tested with it. I’ve been using it for 80 000kms now, the engine hasn’t seized. But that’s not relevant, you could drive with the same oil for 80 000kms and you won’t have any problems… so.. whatever you pick it’s the same..
