I've got a horrible whining noise (not really loud but audible) as engine revs increase (worst at around 1500rpm and 2250rpm), I think the sounds coming from the Air Compressor as the noise quieten downs a little when the air conditioning is switched on. I've had the wheel arch liner off and tried to pinpoint the noise but with there being lots of pulleys in such close proximity its difficult to tell.

I also went out to by a mechanics stethoscope to help pinpoint the noise which sounded loudest on the compressor.

Has anyone ever had this problem with the air conditioning compressor? How easy is it to change?

ah right fair enough. I had a bump back when it was crazy icy and i hit and wall and a bush :( and i think one of the branches of the bush impaled the air con compressor so im in the hunt for a new one. I believe they are the same part for all stilos so shouldnt be too hard to pick it up. Got a mechanic mate who says he will fit it for me.

says on ebay and on eurocarparts - under the air con compressor - all models have the same part number?

Condenser
part# 222650100
Fiat Stilo 1.9 (2003)

Condenser
part# 222650100
Fiat Stilo 2.4 (2003)

Condenser
part# 222650100
Fiat Stilo 1.6 (2003)

As you can see - 3 diff models - all the same part number?

oh right. So which would be the issue with my Air Con. When i press the Air Con button there is no 'click' noise like there used to be?

Could be either compressor is on the left
hand side looking from the front of the car
Condensor is in front of the radiator at the front
of the car.

It could be just it's lost gas over a number of years
or the famous knackered pipe from the compressor
to the condensor. Need more details as to when and how
it stopped working to determine best way of solving
the problem the cheapest way.

i explained in an earlier post. I 'think' it stopped working when i hit a wall in the ice, and a branch off a bush looks like its pierced the Air Con RAD. Although it was a crazy winter and i wouldnt have checked the Air Con at winter time. Cold.

I'm just gonna replace the Air Con Rad then get it tested. Money aint an issue and it defo looks screwed so its worth changing even if its not the definitive problem. Pretty sure it was working before it was impaled by a bush lol. So it should be the problem

Also: Are we defo 100% certain that an Air Con Radiator from another Model Stilo wont fit a JTD?? It has to be one from another JTD?

Hi,
I seem to recall that my JTD was doing the same thing and I was convinced it was the AirCon unit but it turned out to be the tensioner just below it, worth a look see.

What was wrong with the tensioner? With the RAD being damaged its surely gotta be the culprit. Although, anything is possible with a Stilo.
