Hi
Our diesel Multiwagon has just done York to Plymouth and back and went like a dream until the final mile. It then started to lose power but picked up again almost immediately.
Hubby went to work in it this morning (8miles) all ok but on way home he had a power dip 4 times.
This car had a new crankshaft sensor, ECU and ABS modulator fitted last year when we were having problems with it.
Anyone any ideas please cos we love this car when it is runnng well.

Well the car is home, the problem seems to have been solved and we are kicking ourselves for not going straight to the dealer for a diagnosis.
Our friends examiner threw up code P1555 'accelerator brake feasibility' so his mechanic ordered us an accelerator pedal which incorporated the potentiometer at a cost of around £80. When that was fitted the problem was still there so came to this site for ideas.
Turns out according to Fiat that the problem was the brake not the accelerator. The ECU was reading that the brake was pressed when it wasnt therefore there was a fault with a switch which the mechanic at Fiat has adjusted for us. If it happens again he advises to fit a new switch which will only be about £15. It is not the first time he has found this problem.
The problem causes a loss of power as the ecu thinks the brake is beign applied and cuts the fuel.
Hope this info helps some of you who seem to be having a similar problem

You need to avoid putting your foot under the brake pedal and pulling it up. Easily done by acident if you're unaware of the potenial problem.

This can cause the brake pedal switch to go out of adjustment. It can often cause problems with ASR and ABS, but never heard of it causing engine problems on the JTD.

Pretty sure I have done this when being in traffic or what not. Where can i get a break pedal switch from and is it easy to change?

Try adjusting it first.

Hold the brake pedal down then pull the switch plunger out as far as it will go. Long angled nose pliers worked best for me. You should hear the switch plunger ratchet as you pull it.

When the plunger is extended, let the pedal up slowly to it's rest position. You should hear the ratchet again.

If you need to fit a new switch, there's a guide in the Stilo Guides section.

Hi all.
The Stilo hasnt missed a beat since the brake pedal switch was adjusted and we have done quite a few miles now so we are keeping fingers crossed that the prob is sorted.
Thanks to all for your help and advice
