power steering asr failure esp failure

2004 fiat stilo abarth.... Was driving normally this morning and suddenly lost power steering , came up with fault codes... power steering failure, esp failure, asr failure.
Any ideas as to why all three would be a problem at once?? thanks

Thumbs up Re: power steering asr failure esp failure

I had this on my 2002 1.6 Active check the brake pedal switch, this is usually the cause of the asr esp faliure warning. Is it on all the time when the car is started or does it only happen intermittently. My local Fiat dealer said he has seen it alot on Stilos.

Re: power steering asr failure esp failure

Well... the first I knew of anything was the steering changing dramatically , then I noticed 'power steering failure, asr failure, esp failure' all flashing.
Stopped and restarted the car three times in hope it'd go away... But unfortunately not.
Have looked at similar issues that people have had on here and a lot of asr/esp problems or powersteering failure problems... but have not yet found anybody who has had all three problems together....

Re: power steering asr failure esp failure

Have you checked the connections to the Power steering unit ( just about where your knees would be, when sat in car). There are 2 connections, unplug them and make sure there clean and plug back in. If this doesnt work, I would say your electronics on the power steering unit are fried, which is very common, but very easy to fix. Your hardest job would be to find another to fit. I changed a unit on a Stilo 1.6 active 5 door, and i managed to find a donor unit on ebay for 135 delivered and it worked with no problems at all. ( no need for any resetting at fiat ). I went for one with the same part number as my original one, but some people say any will fit, but other people say, it must be from the same door model, ie. 3 door or 5 door and others say it must be the same part number. But from reading other stories on here, it appears they are interchangable. If you cant get one with the same part number, I would go for one which has the same features on, ie. asr and so on. And hopefully it should be fine.

Re: power steering asr failure esp failure

An old battery causes intermittent power steering failure. I had it a few times, then never after I changed the battery though. ABS / ASR is likely to be brake light switch, or wheel sensor connectors in the wheel arches.

Re: power steering asr failure esp failure

My car suffered the ASR failure due to dodgy brake light switch. However, the ASR worked fine, most of the time.

Do you have cruise control? Because if you do, and the brake switch is stuffed it won't work either.

As it seems quite a lot of issues all together it may well be work getting a diagnostic carried out to trace the issue?
