the cat on my 1.4 stilo is on the downpipe, and i understand that downpipe cat's are known to be very restrictive.

sooooo, can i just remove it and weld a straight pipe in its place?
it there any hidden problems? will i get any warning lights etc?
also, thinking of doing the same with the centre silencer box..same for that, can i just remove it and weld a straight pipe in place with no issues?

You'll get post-cat lambda faults flagging up as it'll see the emissions aren't being corrected.

MOT's arent an issue realy
im just more concerned about engine management lights

if i get rid of the cat, then get a post cat lambda sensor light come on... then remove that with my scanner will i be ok?

it will just come back on, leaving the 2nd lambda out of socket and just wrapping it in tin foil works on lots of other cars, dunno if a stilo will go mad though

got ya got ya... hmm might not bother with the cat removal though, although ive got no doubt it would make noticable improvement..

Why don't you replace your cat with an aftermarket one. Get an Americat 200cpi for example. I got this one, which gives no error messages, more performance and you can get through the MOT (at least in Greece). Of course, you can get rid of the center silencer (if you are looking for extra noise)

Last time I took a car for MOT in Greece, was an old Fiat Duna, the guy checked the lights, then drove the car about 100 metres to try the brakes and that was it. New MOT for 2 years.

It was about 8 years ago so I expect it's changed now.

They are a bit more strict now. (they drive it for 200m - just kidding!) I was stopped by a police "exhaust-control team" and I passed the exhaust test without any problems. I passed both sound and emissions tests.

I don't think there is a "exhaust-control team" on Kerkyra. The police from the office in Lefkimmi are always in either Maria's Taverna on the Potami or the Kafeneion opposite.

I got a parking ticket there years ago. Went to see the police (in the Kafeneion). He tore it up and said forget about it AND paid for my coffee.

I'll be driving through Thessaloniki in June on the way to Constanta, Romania. I'll look out for your yellow Stilo.

You see, they are serving you very fast and without a lot of paperwork in the Greek police! LOL!

From UK to Romania through Thessaloniki??? It sounds a bit wierd. Have you got a GPS? You should check it before traveling! If you really pass through Thessaloniki, let us know at the Greek StiloClub. You should also arrange a short stay (for modding you Stilo!).

I'm going to Kerktra first in May, so I'll be getting the Lefkimmi to Igoumenitsa ferry. From there it's a straight line through Thessaloniki to Constanta.

If we do meet in Thessaloniki, you and your mates at Greek StiloClub are not getting your hands on my Stilo MW. I prefer it to stay completely standard.
