Can anyone help me please ,(Stillo 1.6 02 plate) My radio wont work at all , all i get is static . Mw,lw,fm,all the same. I have a radio that has the tape deck on it .Its driving me crazy.....:bang:

Likely to be a problem with the aerial. Pull the radio out enough to try a substitute aerial or a few meters or wire hanging from the aerial socket.

I am not realy a motor person , so could you tell me how to take the radio out . Also , can the ariel be removed as it seems to be well fitted to the roof...thanks.

Hi to get the radio out you need a metal coat hangar cut the two ends off that would put inside the garment. Make sure they are quite long in lenght, They should look like the radio removal forks you can buy in Halfords but longer. Put them into the holes on each side of the stereo and push them in this should then release the unit and you can then pull it out. Check that the ariel connector is in the back of the stereo firmly. I hope that helps a bit good luck.

You need 2 tools as in the diagram below. Push them about 40mm into the holes in the front of the radio and it should pull out.

It is possible but time consuming to take the complete aerial and cable out of the car, but your problem may be just the aerial plug has come out of it's socket at the back of the radio.

If the plug hasn't come out then test with another aerial or wire to confirm the original aerial or cable is faulty.

What did you use as a substitute aerial?

Thanks Davren , i haven't got a substitute ariel but i will get one tuesday .

Just taking the radio out isn't going to fix it.

Unplug the aerial from the radio. Strip about 1cm of insulation from about 2 meters of wire, plug that into the aerial socket just to try it.

Just tried it with coaxial cable (it was the only wire i have) and no cigar :bang::bang::bang: But i am a determined wee lobster and i'm sure i will get there soon....
:tempt:

ok , i bought an ariel from halfords today and plugged it in and guess what? NOTHING!:bang: it looks like i will have to do with the cd player . But i'd like to thank you all for trying to help me :), Cheers!

As you've already taken yours out once. Fitting a new on would be the same procedure except you would need to disconnect all the wiring plugs from your old one and reconnect them to the new one. The wiring connectors will have locking clips that need to be disengaged to remove the connectors.

You will need to enter the security code once the new one is fitted. Both the ones I posted eBay links for come with the code, but if you get one without a code, I can get it for you from the serial number.

It's always advisable to disconnect the battery when doing any electrical work on cars.

Thanks Davren (y), should be quite straight forward for a man of my calibre  keep you posted....
