Noticed on another forum there is a 9.7 software update for the box of tricks. So I've just booked the car in for the upgrade. Does anyone have any notes on whats changed.:p

Spint Blue Abarth, HiFi upgrade, 17" Alloys, 5CD Changer, Alarm Sys.

Not much.

From what I can tell a few bugs have been fixed. The screeching noise on the sat nav goute guidance is gone, the voice recognition works a bit better and the speed sensitive volume is better as well.

Other than that, I don't think much has changed. Still has the memory problems on turning off the ignition.

Cheers

Graham

Just picked up my stilo after the software update to 9.7 and I'm sure the car drives different. It seems to pickup smoother and quicker in 1st 2nd and 3rd and the gear changes feel smoother. Is this part of the software or am i imagining it. I've been told that the 2.4 abarths dont have a chip like other fuel injection cars the system all runs from the computer, is this true??.

Forgive the stupidity of my question but how do you find out what version software you have? Just taken delivery and wondered which version it came with. As I have to take it back to have some problems fixed anyway I thought it would be good to know if I can update the software too.

Cheers!

When you turn the ignition on in the car, watch the Sat Nav screen as the Fiat logo appears. Look in the bottom right hand corner for the version number.

Right, thanks Neil. Am on version 8.5 (strange a new car comes with an old version when they have the newer one available).

The dealer I have just been to (Caledonia Manchester) hadn't heard of version 9.7 and had to look it up. He said while it was available he hasn't been sent it yet. To anyone who has 9.7, where did you have it done?

You do need to bear in mind that whilst your car is 'new', it will more than likely have been sat in a field/storage yard along with many other Stilos waiting for someone to buy that particular model. As 9.7 hasn't been out that long (mine was done approx. early May), it's not too surprising.

The version jumped from 8.5 straight to 9.7 - nothing in between that I'm aware of.

Mine was done at Co-Op Fiat Derby and they *certainly* ain't the most cluefull when it comes to Stilos (or customer service for that matter).

I visit a friend in Derby often so will book the car in there and ask them to do it. Will I need to pay anything[?] Mine was a factory order due to the spec so I would have thought it would have the latest stuff on it. Thanks for the info Neil.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I've joined the version 9.7 club! I have not idea what the difference is yet but I just felt the need to share my joy with you. The one thing I have noticed is that the volume now changes better depending on your speed (think someone else mentioned that one too).

:D:D FULL MARKS :D:D to the guys at Caledonia Fiat in Manchester for pulling their finger out and getting a version 9.7 cd sent to them between my enquiry and booking my car in for some warranty work. It was a very pleasant surprise to find a Fiat dealer doing something to help their customers :D:D:D

The update certainly won't cost you anything.

If you go to Fiat Derby, service reception is now so much better that the arrogant and totally unhelpful Russell Kinch no longer works in that particular branch of Co-Op motor group.

Wow, you lucky bastard. I asked for a update about a year ago because of various software bugs, und they replaced my 8.3 with version 8.1 (those computer illiterates[:(!]). I noticed then that speed-volume thing was barely noticable anymore.

Now (well about a month ago) the only thing the could do was version 8.5, but my car had to go to Amsterdam to the head-office because they weren´t allowed to do it themselves. Fiat NL really has it´s head up its arse. (since promising Bose and delivering italian carboard and plastic crap speakers for about 300 quid.)

I want 9.7 toooo :(:(

Any idea where he is now, so I can avoid him?

I believe he now works for another branch of Co-Op motors, Mazda I think, also on Sir Frank Whittle Way in Derby. Of all the service reception staff I've ever dealt with on Fords, Peugeots, Vauxhalls and now Fiat, he was without doubt the singularly most useless, unhelpful and arrogant one I've ever experienced.
