My 1.9jtd stilo would not start this morning. Over the past week I have had an airbagwarning light intermittently coming on and off, then this morning the car just wouldn't start at all. this happened a couple of months ago, but it started after being left for an hour. The engine turns over, but it just doesn't kick in. Any ideas what it could be?

How olds your battery????

Its normally a sign the battery's knackerd when you get warning lights and odd electrical gremlins happening.

crank shaft sensor. Try it again now and it will probably start. They fail randomly like that, then start working again on their own. It will quickly get worse though.

As John55 has mentioned, more than likely is the crank shaft sensor. Over time the insulation becomes sensitive to the heat of the engine and won't start or conks out when driving, that's how mine started.
Easily changed if you're even half decent with a set of spanners, from memory the senosr is about £26 from fiat.

Hi, I have a 2003/52 stilo multiwagon 1.9jtd. I have had no end of problems in the last 3 weeks. first off the car would not start and all the electrics went hay wire, all the seats moving etc. After getting it towed and put on diagnostic the garage said it was all out of timing, so fixed that. it then started and went for a while but kept cutting out like it was missing. it would then clear itself and go. the garage disconnected the cat and it went like a dream, so replaced the cat with a new one and it was ok. Then started playing up again, so was advised to clean the egr valve, which i did. but problems still exist. Car just dies, still runs then just clears itself and big plumes of smoke come out of the exhaust.

Someone please help, what is it? spent a fortune already !!!!
