Hi

Does anyone know whether I can get replacement brake calliper bolts to use when changing brake pads? New EBC pads do not have the bolts with them and I wondered whether they are available from the dealer?

you suppose to replace all bolts as they can be tensioned only once (you could use em again.. but the manufacturer thinks it is unsafe.. due to stretching and possible micro fractures.. so if you do reuse them bolts and something goes wrong.. they are not to blame)

I had a set of mintex brake pads and they came with bolts , however the boltheads were a different size to oe bolts ,(no great problem of course but it threw me at first) However the mintex pads squeaked like a taxi for about 15k miles. EBCs take a bit of bedding in but afterwards the sqeaking goes much quicker than the mintex, at least that was my experience.

go to the parts department of your local fiat dealer and describe to them what you want, they will look on eper and confirm with you what it is. and then order for you. (y)

New brake caliper bolts come with thread lock compound on them, if you re-use the bolts, just add thread lock blue to the threads and they'll be good to go. Only exception is if the bolts are showing corrosion or were really hard to remove due to over tightening. They should comd out smoothly and progressively. If not replace them.

Bolts provided with fiat OEM parts have no compound on them (nor is this required, according to the FIAT procedure for installing them, due to tension..but once stretched.. IF you are going to reuse them.. locking compound is probably the way to go.. they are very cheap though and i’d still advise you to get a replacement.. new bolts are a requirement according to the procedure approved by FIAT for a reason.. better safe than without brakes in an emergency.. yes unlikely.. but bolts can sheer off..)

The last time I bought Fiat OE front pads they came with only 2 bolts in the pack. This suggests that Fiat dealers are swinging the calipers up and only removing one bolt per caliper. Both new bolts had blue locking compound on them.

yea fiat dealers can do that without undoing the top bolts on the front callipers (i couldn't.. thus they were kind enough to give me 2 extra bolts free of charge) having done my brakes 2ce (with oem parts and bolts) i am yet to see a bolt with locking compound

Hi,

Swapped our pads for some new EBC ones and when installing wasn't happy with the condition of the old bolts so thought fine lets get some new ones as per above...

However....

Went to my local parts dept and looked on their parts system alongside the guy there and Fiat only show the caliper bolts in a set with pads and retention clips (£80 thank you) which is no good as i've already changed the pads.

Was stood next to the guy and have a very good relationship with them so don't believe this to be a fib.

Anyone know if there is a seperate part code or failing that what the correct size and material for the bolts is?

Cheers

If it is possible, remove a bolt, then call or visit a bolt or fastening supplier, the bolt head carrier marks that relate to size, thread pitch if not metric and bolt strength. Most fastener firms so minimum order value of £5 or £10 so you'll probably end up with a box full! Could then sell them on here!

i see your from yorkshire, if your anywhere near batley i suggest going to B&D bolts,
there a bit old fashioned but very good and they will definately sort you out,

got me out a few scrapes many a time.
