Looking to fit component speakers in my fiat stilo 5 door as from some advice anyone got and offers of which ones i should go for i am looking for a decent pair with crossovers and how to fit them diy

Might I suggest you search through the others treads, possibly the I.C.E. forum. Start here

But to recap:

As far as choosing the components, it's down to personal taste and is a case of suck it and see. Go somewhere you can audition speakers, e.g. your local ICE store, or Halfords. Your choice will depend on the sound you are looking for (and your wallet). This will also dictate the price. High sound quality will be expensive, but 'bang and fizz' will be cheaper.

It will not always be possible to audition speakers, so reading peoples comments in fora like those found here may be your only option.

I didn't have the oportunity to audition the Kenwoods which I chose. My purchase decision was based on help by the staff at my local ICE emporium. Unfortunately, I am not really that happy with them. Then again, I am comparing them to my home hi-fi which cost considerably more. However, they are better than the OEM speakers.

I know Infinity get good comments and they can be bought easily from Halfords.

As for buying on-line, check out the stores mentioned in this thread.

Right, fitting. I would recommend taking as long as possible doing this. You are less likely to make mistakes or damage things.

The tweeters are relatively easy to replace. The housings are on poppers (see pictures on my website - links in thread highlighted above). The tweeter connecters are clipped in, so don't just pull them :) With the housings clear, you can remove the tweeters. The Kenwood tweeters I used required larger holes, so I drilled them larger.

I will have to stop there for a bit. I am at work and shouldn't really be on the net this long [:0]

Actually, what I think I'll do is write a 'How to...' on the whole process, add a few pictures, then make a post. I'll be replacing the rear speakers (3-dr car) over the weekend.

Hi there sorry this is to lead

you said that you would reply a post to

https://www.fiatforum.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2373

also where did you buy the bracket to keep the tweeters into the side panels in this pic

http://www.mojopuss.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/Stilo/ICE_Install/Tweeter/tweeter_ass_lge.jpg

also what size did you buy for the door speakers and was it the right size did they slot straight in or did you have to do anything to make them fit did you use the same spacer as was already in the car.

also did you manage to get the rear door speakers in did you pop off the grill on those as well.

And finally could you measure the height and lengh of your speaker grill to see if it will fit on my 5 door stilo.

I have been busy lately and have only been able to change one side of the rear speakers. I will post more later. Time for food. :p (<- me licking lips)

Had any time yet :D

I´m curious about the pictures of the tweeters and couldn´t find your homepage you reference to in this thread.
I was thinking of replacing the fronts with Pioneer TS-E175C components, with which I don´t have a crossover to worry about. I assume there is enough room to allow a mounting depth of 7 cm (a bit less than 3 inches). The adapter rings i´ll saw out of MDF, instead of the plastic originals (the whole idea is to get rid of that soft material after all to get a solid speaker mounting).

Hey - Lead

Have you done your rear speakers now? I need to get my rear speakers out as they are crap with even the smallest amount of bass. I need to at least get them out and check them out and/or replace them.

However, when I look at the grilles in the back I cannot see how to get them out and don't want to do any damage.

What d'ya reckon??

The grilles on the door and rear speakers are not removable. Well, they are, but it involves snapping and then glueing :I So don't try it! :) (At least others can learn from my experience.)

If you want to change the rear speakers (3-dr car) you have to pull away the interior trim. It's scarey and awkward and I still have to do the passenger side. But when I do, I will take more pictures. Hopefully it will be done today or tomorrow. It's something I have been delaying :(

I´ve allready replaced my rears. Some people report that it is possible to remove the interior trim without removing the backseat, but the ones I know and me myself have taken in out, even then it´s a nerve wrecking job.
Basicly, take the seat out, remove the panels which are on the door-step and gently wiggle the side-panels off. Don´t pull to hard on the small ends in the front, because you´ll hear a snap and they´re in your hands by themselves, happened to me on one side, clean break, so it isn´t normally noticed.
Also you´re bound to break some of the rims of the plastic attachment bolts (inside those yellow circles), almost unavoidable.

I´ve put in 5" speakers which where left from my previous car and custom sawed some MDF to fit them rock-tight to the car body, great improvement in sound. [8D]
6,5" also should fit, but you maybe have to drill one or two extra holes.

I fitted the other speaker last week and I am wondering if it may have been quicker (in the long run) to remove the seat and then trim, completely. It would have made it possible for me to make an mdf adapter too. Oh well, it is done now.

Did you put any sound deadening material in the wing? I managed a few strips and it seems to have made a difference. At least when you tap it from the outside, it doesn't 'ring' as much. :I

By the way, how did you attach the mdf to the body? I can see where the attachments are made, but can't quite make out how.

Like you say, the little poppers are fiddly and I had a bugger of a time trying to realign them to put the trim back on. In the end I had to cut the yellow part off and insert them into the holes in the body before I could replace the trim. I lost one in the process, but I can't hear any rattles, so here's hoping it is jammed solid in the wing :I

I took some pictures of my install, but my compact flash card got corrupted. [:(!] I am in the process of trying to recover some of the files.

I first mounted the MDF with nuts and bolts (with round flat heads) then screwed in the speaker.

If the yellow plugs get stuck just pry them off and stick em back in the holes before replacing the trim, probably easier.

No dampening material used btw, but there still was a pretty tight sound, too bad you can´t really enjoy it fully from the front seat. So there will be some Pioneers TS-E175C or something like them soon[8D]

Hi,

I've already posted an ICE question before I found this, seems to have answered one of my questions.
First off like the speaker mod "This Game". So the rear speaker grile is actally attached to the removable side panel and not the speaker itself, makes sense now.
I'm going to be installing 6x9's in the rear shelf building my own MDF shelf and think I'm just going to buy a new 4 channel amp so I can run the 6x9's and 12" sub from the one amp in the boot? After seeing what works needed to just get at the speakers in the rear doors think am going to give that a miss, I only wanted access to the speaker wire to extend it to the boot but looks more hasstle than it's worth?:(

Quick question too, any you guy's remove the standard head unit yet? I've a head unit adaptor on it's way so I can install my own head unit but haven't a clue how to get the standard one out yet. Only had the car a few days and haven't had a proper chance to look at it, any help will be wicked

Anyway, keep up the good work, the mods look good:)
