R3500 for one 15" wheel??? I don't even want to think how much the 17" rims would set me back if I damage one...

How much was the full qoute for repairing the car?

first quote was R120 000

after the assessor it was R80 000. My dads is on very good terms with the insurance brokers so he managed to organise a write off as he had very little confidence they would get the car right and even less that an accident damaged stilo would be sellable.

I too have not been impressed with fiat's service and knowledge of there own products.

I have had my steering rack replaced under warranty due to a clicking in the steering wheel ( did not make a difference) also the car was returned to me without one of the stabillizer arms not fitted back (which I had to point out to the technician)

I have had the disks and pads replaced at around 10,000km due to the disks being severely warped. This was a huge fight with fiat but managed to get it done under warranty.
I had the clutch fluid bled due to moisture in it. The car was shuddering like the clutch was shot. this also under warranty
when travelling on relatively bad roads I have a knocking noise comming from the front suspension. The car has been back to fiat +- 8 times on this issue no one can get it sorted.

It also jerks in second gear like its starved of fuel, albeit not very often

the car is only 10 months old and at the moment I still have a clicking
creaking noise from the steering wheel, creaking clutch, knocking noise from the front suspension and occasional jerking that fiat can not sort out.

I too was interested in the abarth until I saw the trade in on my car.
I am very disapointed with fiat and as soon as i can break even with the bank on this car i am going to get rid of it and buy a subaru.

yup i also had the minor issues as well. Creaking clutch from day one. wasn't too aware of it driving but the one day someone else drove my car with me in it and it drove me mad! some engine failure or oil pressure warning came on every time i parked the car on a slope. I also had creaking steering when at parking speeds. And there was a rattle in the roof lining that used to drive me insane! (turn up the music!!)

Oh yes I forgot about the low oil pressure warning that used to come on.
Still I am quite fond of the car just wish fiat would get there act together.

Also its quite a concern that you said your airbags did not deploy.LAtely I have spoken to so many people involved in pretty bad accidents whose air bags failed to deploy from BMW's to volvo's also i spoke to someone this morning who rear ended a taxi at about 90km and her airbag light came on but they did not deploy, she was in a peugeot 407

Now that you mentions it, my steering also makes a creaking noise at parking speeds, but so does my wife's Renault Megane (also has electronic power steering). Both the cars have been doing it since day one, so I assumed that it's just one of those things. Suppose I got so used to the Renault doing it, that when I drove the Fiat I didn't even notice it.

I have quite a list of things that went wrong with my car within the first week of ownership, but they were all sorted out without me having to put up a fight with the dealer, so it didn't bother me too much.

I'm not concerned by the fact that the airbags didn't go off. If you look at the accident the frontal force wasn't enough to detonate the front airbags. The window airbag would have come in handy shielding me and my passanger if i had had one in the car from the breaking glass and side mirror. But the window was broken by the side mirror being crushed between the wall and the car and there is actually very little damage to the door. So it makes sense that the window airbag didn't detonate either.

Mine was as bad took 4 months to repair , most of time was spent by fiat sending wrong parts. eg windscreen without sensors.
The repair company did a brilliant job. and I could track progress on their web site.
Total bill £3900.
bloody air bags are a dear do.
Car is as good as new, no probs at all.
Stilo 1.6 dynamic.
Keep your chin up

If you still have the problem with the steering send me a PM as I have just had this problem fixed on my car
