Hey guys, Was wondering if anyone has installed any induction kits to a 1.4 active?

Was considering 1 of 4.. Either BMC CDA, Pipecross venom, Pipecross viper or your standard K&N 57i

I'm just looking for some input on power gains.. I know its not gonna turn my sti-slow into a mean machine but any gains at all (even as little as 4bhp+) would be worth it!

You will loose torque low down even if you do get a max power gain IMO. I have personally given up tuning small engines. At the end of the day tuning them will gain in one place and loose in others.

True, but you've gotta do the best with what you've got!

I heard the BMC CDA doesnt lose as much low down torque as others and actually increases mid-range torque as well as power.

If you decide to go BMC, don't get one new or at least hunt around for one on eBay - they're not the cheapest. If you want to go GSR brace yourself for an "interesting" customer service experience.

57i and the basic Pipercross kit (which I believe is the same set up apart from a foam instead of cotton based cone) are pretty poor though - the cone essentially sits on top of the rocker cover. Have a look at the K&N fitting guide to see what I mean.

Viper kit is an enclosed kit like the BMC, so it'll have similar results though I hear it's a little noisier, which you may prefer. I'd have a look at Regal Motorsport - http://www.regals-motorsport.co.uk/index.php - they do BMC, etc and also cheaper Apiro kits which are very similar but FAR cheaper.

Personally I'm building my own currently for my 1.2 which is similar to the 1.4 (you may have seen my thread over on FSOC). It is a bit more involved and I'm not 100% what the result will be BUT I'm doing it for cheaper than the 57i, which has to be good :)

I was going to get one of them as well, but hey ho

i only had to chase mine up for 2weeks, then oldschool drove up to my house himself to deliver it and i paid for it in cash, so i was pretty hapy with the service, and its well been worth the money (apart from the fact it sucked water up and blew up my engine costing me £1300, in that respect it wasnt worth the money haha) either way, in my opinion.. best kit available on the 1.4! (y)

Unfortunately I don't live down the road from where it's built and can't spare a few hundred miles worth of petrol :(

Don't get me wrong, I hear good things about the kit and if you can get one then good on you but I just didn't get anywhere with my enquiries. Fair do's, I only sent 3 emails and a PM through Performance Fiat but the first of those were at the tail end of October and this was all before the actual ordering process had even started.

I don't want to bad mouth GSR, I wanted one myself but the seeming lack of reliable communication, slightly iffy couriers and other issues just put me right off.

Maybe I'm just not persistent enough as there are plenty of happy customers out there. I just decided to go a different route :)

Great guys! Thanks for he help.. anyone used the Apiro kits before?.. cheaper's always better! lol

Chap on Fiat Scotland used one, I'll link you to the thread (which was started by myself ;) )... http://www.fiat-scotland.com/fiat/upload/showthread.php?t=11181&page=2 ...guy's name is Fasckira with the Punto mk2b. He ended up going for... http://www.regals-motorsport.co.uk/...sal-air-filter-induction-kit-blue-p-1532.html ...which is basically a cheapo version of the Pipercross Viper. Don't think he has any complaints though he did have an issue or two fitting it as it is a universal kit. Still, for the money you're paying it looks like a good deal if that's the style you're after (y)

i live about 3hours away from him, and was more than suprised when he said he would deliver it in person
but he did, i guess i was just lucky

Cool man, I'm out Livingston way.. The drug hotspot in Scotland haha

I remember driving on the M8 and the Livingston sign missing many of the letters and the like. Have to say, I've never been there - think Bathgate's the nearest I've been, my Grandpa used to stay in Harthill just down the road.

By the way, you should take a look in the events section on here - there's a meet in Glasgow on the 31st and a fair few more planned in the coming months including the big one in May at St Andrews (y)
