Hi Everyone!

last night i put down my window, then.. it wouldn't go back up. and the window switches on both sides arent lit up. i cant lock or unlock the doors by using the switch on the inside.
also it wont lock or unlock with the remote central locking on the key fob. and i cant pop the boot open using the key fob.
the horn isn't working either, and last night the lights stopped working, there back on now though, but everything else is still broke.

2weeks ago i removed the fuse box cover in the engine bay to paint it, and stupidly havent put it back on yet. i removed a few fuses and relays from the fuse box and around the terminals was alot of grime (almost looks similar to limescale)they were very hard to remove asif they were rusted in to place. theres also alot of dust/dirt on the fuse box, im thinking it could have knackered the fuse box, although none of the fuses are blown?

also, dont know if its linked,

but for the last 2months my engine management light has been on, and the car runs rough and missfires, it only runs on 3 cyclinders, until i put pressure on the part in this picture.

engine14.jpg

when i press this down it runs fine, and returns to running on all 4 cylinders. It is always cylinder 1 which the car doesn't run on, after swapping the coil pack in cylinder 1 for the one in cylinder 2, it was still cylinder 1 which wasnt running, which rules out coil pack.

i just cant understand why when i put pressure on this connector it makes the car run on all 4 cylinders as it should? any ideas?

yes the bit them 2 big plugs go in to is ecu

I hada guy come out from the RAC last nite to get my window up, he said he didnt think it was, but i thought so,

with regards my other problems like, windows, central locking, horn, abs
do you think thats all fusebox related?
as all those problems just came at once last night

Cheers, gives me some idea of what the problem is. Is it worth taking to an auto electrician to sort?ive no idea about the CAN or how id fix it?

With regards the 2month long issue of the missfire and flashing engine management light, diagnostics told me o2 sensor bank 1,sensor 2. was out,so i replaced that, and applied a liberall ammount of contact cleaner so the pins on the ecu,and to the plug itself, and for now (20 miles) its running perfectly, and even sits fine on idle which it hasnt done for the whole 2months,so fingers crossed thats the long term issue sorted,il have to run it for a few days to be sure though.

Have you tried cleaning the infamous D4 connector? It's directly below the engine fuse box, It doesn't like water and the CAN wiring goes straight through it.

There's a guide on it here:

Dave.

yeh i cleaned that out at the same time mate, it looked fine though anyway, no dirt/corrosion or anything.

so can i only take it to fiat now?
or can i try anything myself?

theres no engine light on, so i cant diagnose the problem myself, examiner might find something though?

have you a multimeter?

yep i do,

also dont know if this makes any difference, but if i try to lock or unlock with the buttons on the keyfob, the indicators flash, and put the interior light off/on. it then arms or disarms the red flashing LED aswell..
as if its working as it should, but there is no life to the central locking or the windows.

As you have a CAN bus system error and your door locks and windows are on the CAN bus from the body computer then, if you haven't already done so, disconnecting the battery for a few hours and then reconnecting can make the CAN bus nodes (small message exchange outposts) realign and communicating with one another once again

i've tried it already mate, but its prob worth trying again i suppose.. dont know what my other options are..

So does it defo sound like a CAN bus system error? is there any 2nd hand parts i can buy to sort it, or will it have to go to the dealers?
would the CAN error be the cause of flashing miles too?

The flashing mileage is the system telling you the CAN network is faulty or a foreign node has been detected. Id say it was difficult to pin point the exact cause of the problem without Examiner im afraid.
