Hi guys,
newbie stilo owner here. Just getting used to the 'quirks' of the fiats electrics, currently my 'failure' list extends to airbag and parking sensors, after i fixed my number plate light - just continuing to knock off some of the easier ones first!
My current problem, when i open the passneger door, the 'puddle' light comes on and the front roof light comes on, however, when i open the drivers door, the puddle light does not come on, neither does the roof light. i have seen the door light working, and the roof one definatly does, any ideas? could it be a dodgy groung connection in the door???
thanks

update: i think the problem stems from the car not registering that the door is open - i.e no warning on dash when i open the door, unlike the 'door open' i get for all others. have hecked the door light and its fine. on previous cars i have had a small 'button' in the door hinge, that is the door open sensor, i had a quick look but couldnt find one - havent had time to pull the rubber back on the door wiring loom yet (that is exposed when the door is open)

The door open sensor N50 is in the door catch however the electrics has to go through the door to A frame connector D30 which is prone to weather damage. All connections go through here to ground and to the body computer. The BC turns on the roof lamp

thanks deckchair! is that image off the workshop cd? I was fortunate enough to get one with the car but havent had a hance to look through it yet.
I will have a look at the sensor tomorrow, give it a clean, and do the same to the d30. fingers crossed!

Yes it should all be on your workshop cd but it's quite a bit more sophisticated than the old push plunger proving an earth to the roof lamp
The roof lamp is controlled by the body computer, that's how you get that nice dimming action on a timer when it turns off

Your problem is going to be in these areas- note both lines go through D30 the door to A frame connector
N50 door switch
D30 Door to A frame connector
N66 door node
G51 puddle light

Personally i'd start at the D30 connector.
Is the earth line going to earth?
Is the N50 switch doing anything?
The answers are all there
You may find a poor contact there straight away without having to remove any trim

HELP!!! have locked my door, now it wont close - cannot unlock

I dont know if this has anything to do with my previous thread, of the car not registering my drivers door is open. But this morning i thought i would have a bit of a fiddle once i got to work, oops! I flicked the catch down on the drivers side door which locks the door - now when i unlock the car, this stays down, and as such my door doesnt close - there must be a manual way to flip the catch up? i ahve tried the key in the door, and obviously locking and unlocking remotely.
Heeeellllppp!!!!

i thought this warrented a new thread as its somewhat more important than the lights working, as it stands I will have to drive home with my door open! I was only hinting at the possibility of a link, it could have nothing to do with my previous post.

The pass side door locks work but the driver's door lock doesn't?
Presume you've also tried the lock/unlock on the driver's control panel?
Does anything happen when you use those buttons?
Does the led on the door top flash?

There's a door node - a relaying computer- in each door. Try your driver's side door mirror adjustment, if that isn't functioning then your driver's door node isn't operational. If it is working then the door node may have lost comms with the lock.

The deadlock may even have jammed in the closed position whilst the door was open

Long shot but simply disconnect and reconnect and give a wiggle test to the door to A frame connector D30 as the door node may have lost its power supply or earth through there

thanks guys for your suggestions. Its now working, im guessing something froze so when i pressed the latch down there was nothing to push it back??? all the lights worked correctly, and everything sounded like it was working, but nothing happened.
I can now calm down a little and start readdressing my original problems.

all sorted now, it would appear that after a clean and grease of the latch itself the problem is resolved. The issue was that the drivers door latch, whilst opening, was not opening to such an extent as to trip the switch. very simple really ;) i wish my parking sensors and airbag failure were so easy to resolve (and i have cleaned both :p ) but thats for another day!
still, this has proved a useful ice breaker ::ahem:: for my introduction to the stilo
ho ho ho
thanks all
