Hi there, new to the site and hopefully if i get my car sorted i will be on it for a while.
Anyway here goes
FIAT STILO 02 PLATE 64K FULL SERVICE
Firstly ive had problems with the car not starting after it was being used for around 20mins so i then changed the WATER TEMP SWITCH,still nothing THEN THE STARTER MOTOR,still nothing THEN THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR
NOPE still clicking away not starting off the key.:bang:

Tried jump starting it then it goes but it will cut out 5 minutes after i take the leads off, even tho ive just spent hours getting wet and
cold fitting a NEW alternator.:bang:
It seems as if there is a problem between the battery and alternator it doesnt want to charge the battery:cry:

Ive checked and cleaned the D4 connector ,the coils were all changed last year before i bought it.
I really dont know what to do next apart from wash it with petrol and dry it with a match.
ANY HELP APPRECIATED
thanks Del

Have a look in the Stilo Guides for checking your battery earth and do some voltage measurements to see what charge the battery is receiving.
Check across battery terminals with
ign on
engine running with no load
same again after 10mins
engine running with electrical load eg hrs + headlights
then between battery + and an earth on the engine
Check battery voltage after an hour spent with everything off
then post up your findings

Many people change batteries and alternators when it's a simple earth fault

Hi there,thanks for the reply
i have already added earths as in the guide with proper cable and connectors
from memory the battery is 9. something when off then 14.02 when on jump leads to another car then when its disconnected its at 9. something again and goes down until it cuts out.
What can go wrong between alternator and battery?
cheers Del

Its a shame cos i like the way the car looks ,just dont like the problems im having with it.:(

The battery was one i had lying around which i charged up and put in the car a few days ago,its dropped a few volts due to the alarm etc
Should it not be at least getting some charge when i jump start it and then take the leads off.
Even if its 9.0 volts it should be getting charged?
Im charging a good heavy duty battery the now to fit for Sunday so hopefully that sorts it
Im just confused to how the alternator isnt charging the battery thats in it jut now.
thanks again
Del

Ive been a **** i could of had a gubbed battery and alternator, and now ive just got a gubbed battery.
Hopefully this other one will solve it

Agree'd sounds like a dead cell to me.... I've got a "spare" battery that has a dead cell, charges fine but won't for its life start a car.... works fine with a 12v inspection lamp attached to it though (which is why I've still got it).

9v is goosed! I'm surprised you never tried the battery first before the alternator.

I tried another battery in the car before i changed the alternator but it went flat also.

Have you fitted an aftermarket stereo? Could it be that you've got it permanently live and your not taking off the faceplate causing the battery to discharge?
Ive got one yes but it was doing this before i fitted it the car is totally standard, ive been a mechanic for over 3years back when i was 17-20 but i left before i got my papers so im pretty clued up with it,just not that great with the electronics side of it.
Im in the middle of fitting a 2ltr turbo zvh to my rst cab but it aint half as bad as this car(n)

Delboy.... These guys r trying to help you!!!
YES i do no that!
I was no way being cheeky, nasty or trying to tell anyone off for giving me advice.
I was just summing up myself to people to let them know that im pretty clued up when it came to engines "just not electronics"
So do not leave a post suggesting i was trying to hammer folk down for giving me advice.
I am thankfull for the replys that have been left, and take kindly to any advice left.
So please look at your button happy finger before firing in a pile of pish post
