Has anybody removed the standard stereo from their stilo i am trying to get hold of the keys but no luck also what is behind i am looking to put a standard sony sereo but is half the size any sugestions please

I used a coat hanger. Cut it up into 4 pieces, about 6" long. Then push 'em in. You can get a grip of the unit from the top and sides, then pull. There's enough slack in the aerial and speaker/power connectors, so don't worry about breaking anything. (Obviously, don't pull it too far.)
I never did take any pictures of the dash with the unit out. I could go and do that now. It'll give you a better idea. But here's the Visteon sound unit.
It was the Fiat dealership that gave me the idea. They have to do the same thing, as they haven't been issued with the correct pins. The holes are too close together for the pins you can get from the likes of Halfords, etc.
As you can see from the threads listed in Donz's post, I have a facia adapter with my head unit in the middle. But I have seen one where the HU sits in the bottom half of the area, leaving an equal sized gap above for knik-knaks, e.g. coins, shades. It was on a Spanish site, but I can't remember the link.
I prefer mine though, as I don't like too many bits loose in my car.

Your best bet is to use a cut up coat hanger, thats what i used to get my old radio out, and strangely is what Fiat suggested for me to use.

I borrowed a set of Radio removal tools from a mate, and found the quality of the clips on the Stilo radio is mince, and they wouldn't grip. So i took out the upper glove box in preparation to fit the new glovebox liner, and reached behind the stereo and pushed it out from behind. Worked a treat!

mm, for some reason my cd/mp3 player will not work with the stilo iso connector?? do i have to change some wires around or something first????

from what i have found outI think I got this right, going to give it a try in the morning)
RED wire (Perm 12v) which connects to my orange (memory permanet +12v)
BLACK wire (ground) which connects to my black cable(ground)
then theres these two in the stilo???
RED/WHITE wire (what this one for??)
RED/BLACK (and this)
on my unit i have two more wires
orange/white (for auto aerial) no use on the stilo as its a fixed one
red (igition switch) so could this go to one of the stilo cables to switch the unit on and of with igition maybe???
I can not find any info on these two wires(stilo ones) anywere??

Basically the stereo wiring on the Stilo is a pain in the arse as FIAT have decided to use their own wiring scheme.
I recently fitted a Sony CD head unit in place of the standard radio/cassette and had to do a bit of DIY on the Sony loom to mate it up with the FIAT one as there is no switched live (the switched live is provided by the CAN system (i.e. from the body computer) and therefore only works with factory head units!).
The other 'fun' item was that the Sony loom provides a set of bullet connectors so you can bypass the switched live thus allowing you fo fit it straight into any car...apart from a FIAT!!! This is because in their infinite wisdom FIAT decided to wire the permanent live to a different pin on the ISO block rather than use the 'standard' pin assignments - got round this by re-wiring the Sony ISO to match the FIAT loom however you could buy a straight through ISO extension cable and 'cross' the necessary wires to acheive the same thing.
So pretty much the only two wires on the power segment of the FIAT ISO that do anything are the Red and Black - the others are not live and I believe are only there to allow the factory units to communicate with the CAN system.
Anyway, hope this helps a little but let me know if you've got any other questions.

well its in now and working(i had to join the red and orange leads together to get it to work.(good job i had both my cd/mp3 manual and the fiat one)

Do you get the impression Fiat don't want anyone replacing the factory head unit? I've got a fascia for a normal din head unit, but I'm sure it would make the cabin look a bit spartan. Has anyone got any pics of a replacement head unit installed, so I can see what it looks like with all the extra plastic?

Removing Tape/Radio/Fascia unit in a STILO
There is a cassette stuck in the tape deck of my STILO. All attempts to get it to eject have failed so it looks like the unit is going to have to come out. I can heara whirring noise when i press eject but thats all that happens.
How the heck do i get the thing out, do i remove the whole black fascia or does the unit slip out of the fascia (as i guess)? I have tried slipping 2 very thin screwdrivers down the small holes in the fascia but cant seem to locate any tabs or anything and the thing remains tight in the dash. I
i guess this is my punishment for playing an ABBA tape i bought at a charity shop yesterday

You need 4 bits of Coat hanger .... Poke them in the holes and you will feel the clips give, The unit will then slide out of its mountings in the dash.

Taking radio and CD player out
I'm sure it's simple, but I don't want to do the force bit and break anything. Can anyone tell me how to remove the CD player and radio from the dash?
My child decided to bang the on off switch with too much force, so I want to take it out and check the damage as it's gone bad since.

don't you get a special tool for taking it out? kind of like a U-shape bit of metal.
Or you can use a bent coat hangar?

thanx for the info lads, just need to find some stilo's so i can steal the stereos
now, always said this was the best forum for info,,lol,, btw i used precision screwdrivers to remove mine,,worked a treat
