Technical FiatEcuScan diagnostic software

Johnson550 told me about this the other day - You need a KKL interface, a cheapy vagcom 409.1 cable will do the trick ~£13 on ebay. Either than or a homebrewn serial one.

Looks like a good program, just get us some selespeed CFC-209 and ME731 support for us non-sludgeburners.

You can do Stilo airbags already with SanderQV's KWP71 diag and also alfadiag.

No matter what software - you will need to modify your KKL interface to do this. ABS is on Pin1 and Airbag on Pin3 of the diagnostic connector, so if you want to communicate with them you can either merge pin 1,3 and 7 together or fit a switch to select between them.

Saying that the interface in this new software is excellent, maybe you could look at taking the data from some of the unidiag/kwp71 definition files and adding them into your program yani?

Brilliant! Need to get to the bottom of this airbag fault ASAP. By merging the pins, will it not affect any other functionality?

When i search for SanderQV it often refers to Unidiag... are they the same thing? Will unidiag do airbags?

Unidiag does do some airbags - but not the stilo ones so KWP71 diag works on those. Join the unidiag group on yahoo (its been mentioned on here a few times).

Merging the pins together shouldnt cause you problems as the control units attached to each pins have different addresses so you wont get conflicts when they are initialised.

See here http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/UniDiag/ - if you get stuck PM me..

BTW - sorry for taking this off topic :D - Back to FiatECUScan

I already have the data from another source. It just takes time to add the data for each ECU.
Also, speaking about airbags - they use another protocol for communication, so I need to implement it first... Anyway, I will do it, it's just a matter of time...

Dropping the FIFO buffers down to the minimum can help with connection issues, it in the driver properties for the virtual com port in device manager.

I know Johnson550 has had it going with his mjet sporting, not a non-eobd compliant JTD granted.

Make sure the plug is all the way in as well, as the quality of these devices is often a little flaky. To test the serial side is working okay connect the interface to the car, open hyperterminal (at any speed) and if the device is powered when you will get the characters echoing back. If not the KKL interface isnt getting any power.

The author has released a new version, might cure some problems?

11/29/2009 - Version 1.3 - Added Magneti Marelli IAW 4AF/4EF/59F/5AF support
- Added Magneti Marelli IAW 49F support
- Added EDC15 support for 2.0, 2.3, 2.8 engines
- Rebuild user interface. All functions are accessible through keyboard shortcuts.
- Added interface latency detection.
- Improved communication protocol, more stable connection.

This is shaping up well by the looks of things, just Motronic 731 please please please:D:D:D

Hi guys,

I've had a trawl through the forum trying to get an idea of what's now available for reading the Abarth ECU's but I'm struggling a bit as things keep changing all the time.

Could someone give me a brief "heads up" of what software can do what with the Abarth engine ECU and Selespeed ECU? I've just ordered a £10 VAGCOM KKL cable and I'll see what's what when it arrives...

I really want to control the Selespeed ECU so I can carry out tests once I swap my Selespeed reservoir...

Cheers!

Theres nothing mate, not at the moment. I have a *cough* special copy of alfadiag which will talk to the ECU, but the actuator tests and calibration routines dont work on the CFC-209 thats in the Abarth(alfadiag supports just the CFC-208, and 218), and the author of Alfadiag says he has no plans to support it either:(.

To use alfadiag you just need the cheap KKL cable that you have got. It think as it stands alfadiag is as good as it gets, does ABS, ECU, will get DTC's from the selespeed ecu and does the airbags as well.

The real deal costs 60EUR though, not too bad and a 1000x better than Gendans italiacheck.

Cheers for that Dan, it's gutting about the Selespeed ECU... I'd really like that. I'm loath to do any work on the reservoir myself without being able to run the Selespeed actuator through it's paces once I'm done :( I don't want to have to pay a garage to change the reservoir either...

Actually, I plan to add selespeed support to FiatECUScan.
It is not a problem to add support for the CFC-209 version as well. It is a very rare unit. I see in my source data that it is used in Stilo Selespeed only, and that explains why noone has plans to support it.
I think I can add support for all selespeed verisons in my program at the end of this month or beginning of January.

That would be brilliant if you could. I think all Stilo Abarth owners would be extremely happy to see that feature pop up! If it can control the actuator and run the system through it's calibration routines, then I certainly would! (y)

Hi Yani,

If you need any testing doing I am more than happy to help, also if you can get the actuator tests and EOL calibration routine in there for the CFC-209F I will make a nice donation to your project. Rather line your pocket than that of my garage:D.

Ok guys,
I just checked all the data that I have for the selespeed ECU. And yes, I have the actuator test/calibration information. I will try to include selespeed support in a new release of FiatECUScan by the end of this week.

Thanks for the tips Dan (y)

I had no joy at all with hyperterminal but changing port properties did the trick

Set the USB transfer size to 64 bytes for Tx & Rx and also set latency to 1mS

As I use a T23 Thinkpad (looking a bit slow but it has a nice hardware D9 port) I dumped the A/V program completely to speed it up a bit and the program worked brilliantly.

What a superb piece of software

Thanks Yani :)

Hi guys,

I released a new version today.
Selespeed CFC208F and CFC209F gearboxes are now supported.
I have not tested the calibration functions because I don't have where to test.
So, please give me feedback when you test the actuator and calibration functions.
