Just joining in this thread - boug a VAGCOM off ebay for 7.90, as pointed to by Shadeyman.

Gave me an ISO error on connecting, but still told me that my engine fault was due to a low signal on my MAF, which I will dry out if the fault re-occurs. Not sure why I got the ISO error though - I used the scan function to connect to the control unit it detected?

Won't let me reset the service indicator, which FES says needs the ELM327 - now to decide whether it's worth paying for - does anyone know if the cheap ELM cables from China work, and are the ones in the UK actually any different for the extra money they cost?

You must have selected the wrong car/ECU type.

Edit.
Yours is the Stilo JTD 8v(I think)?

This is what you should have selected(attached).

Will have another go tomorrow lunchtime, I guess... having said that, it cleared the fault, so no problems now.
I'm assuming that selecting the wrong control unit will have no affect on the VAGCOM cable's inability to reset the service indicator?

Selecting the wrong ECU type means certain options wont be available.

But you may need an EML to reset the service indicator.

Hi,
I'm having problems with fiatecuscan.
When I try to connect to TRW power steering, the error light appear on dashboard, and on FES I get notice „Power steering fault“. Also, the power steering cuts off (steering wheel gets hard).
After restarting engine, all works fine.

Also, when trying to connect (or scan) with ABS i get the same (EBD fault)

I have done modifications to ELM (with DIP-switch) – connected pin 7 with pin 9.
Any clue ?

It's normal for some systems to disable their operation while being diagnosed -on my GP I get the warning on the dash when scanning the ABS IIRC.
You should find when you disconnect the software, the system turns back on and the warning goes away.

I have this cable(actually I have a lot of cables), works very well, you'll have no problems connecting to the Airbags. No adapters needed as it has a micro switch fitted.

Hi shadey, I have a kiwi Bluetooth cable, which I had before the stilo, last year I tried out a trial copy of FES & it worked with the cable, now I need a registered version as I want to reprogram the remote locking .So I bought a registered copy of FES, however the cable does not work with the latest copy, i just get NO ECU RESPONSE.

I don't really want to spend loads of time troubleshooting it, so this cable you mention here, will it work on stillos without any messing about?

Thanks
Mike

Ps I just bought an iPad 3 and there a right pain in the arse to type anything longer then a sentence on. Missing my laptop...

To reprogram the remote locking you need to connect to the Body ECU, I don't think your "kiwi Bluetooth cable" is able to connect to anything other then the Engine ECU it probabely will fail to connect.

Yes that modified VAG does work very well on Stilo's, no messing about. BUT, you want to reprogram the key fob(remote locking) so you will require a cable that can connect to the Body ECU so you need to purchase an ELM327 cable.

iPad v Laptop?

I'll always chose a laptop but my daughter likes her iPad and finds this very useful:

iPad :yuck:

Gave mine to my daughter.

If all I did was play Angry Bird, read emails and watch movies its great but I use my laptops for far more. iPad just didn't "cut the mustard".

If you prefer Apple buy something worth owning, a Quad Core MacBook Pro. (y)
