If yours has the same selector arrangement as the OP's the could possibly be. Look for loose or broken part of the pin jamming the selector.
Could also be faulty or worn synchro-hub. If it consistently engages 4th OK when double de-clutching but not otherwise, it's more likely to be the synchro-hub.
Davren: double de-clutching dont affect it (see thread created specific to it), i CAN NOT find a way to change gear without it being stiff (tried lots of methods and different orientation of the gear stick and verious states of engine off on clutch engaged dis-engaged (and internmediary)
no, there was a pin that came loose that foulded the selector, so was fine when going one way ie. 1st, 3rd and 5th. but the selector could move the other way so lost 2nd, 4th and reverse
i think im gonna need to have a poke around, and see what i can see, REALY hope its not internal gearbox problems, 1.8's arnt around much, especially in breakers, and gearbox is fookin expensive....
