Hi all ventured on here from the G-Punto section

My mate ((who has now signed up as Lee22)) has got his hands on a 2004 1.4 16v petrol Stilo

done just over 50k and reading between the lines needs a cambelt fitting (had a look at it today and isn't in the best state ((nor is the aux belt))

anyone got any tips or pitfalls to watch out for when changing the belt/s ?

I take it the aux belts on the 1.2 and 1.4 are the same as shop4parts doesn't list the 1.4 aux belt and all the other bits will fit both ((obviously air con units have their own spacific aux belt ))

Looking at it the engine will need a jack and lump of wood under it to take the weight whilst you remove the RH engine mount...

how about timing marks and the rest ((has new tensioner on order too) any Torque settings for the tensioner bolt? how about cam locking tools?

Also both top strut bearings are FUBAR is it a simple job to do ? looked on Deckchairs guide and it looks as if the strut top bearing sits on top of the coil spring.... does it retain teh spring or is the spring retained by another part IE do we need spring compressors ((rather find out now than when the car is in bits ;)

any workshop manual for teh stilo? not listed in Haynes 2009 book list??

many thanks

You will need cam locking tools to make sure the cams dont move..procedure for the 1.2 and 4 should be the same as the 1.4 was developed from the 1.2 which came from the punto..get himself an elearn disc is the best advise I can give you..better safe that sorry..you are correct tho andy you do have to support the engine while the engine mount is off..

Both front shocks will have to come off and be stripped to fit the bearing[if you can call it that] ..

and when you put them all back together the top mount [which I would advise changing as well ] and bearing all goes back in this possition..

Strap up the springs and also use compressors that way you will have less spring to compress..;) if one should open to its full length then god help you cos you will need double length compessers the cos the springs are very long indeed..
