I didn't see a guide on this, maybe i'm blind.

But I do remember hearing mention that you need a special wind back tool for the pistons? True/False? Where is the best place to pick up one on a budget?

Noticed my off-side read pads are very low and starting to squeek and the nearside will not be long in following so thought I'd change them myself. Did my mini and it was easy, but then all you need is a big spanner and a crowbar lol.

Here is what you're looking for from the Stilo Guides bud.

truth be told you dont need one, All i did when i replaced my disc and pads was had my jack handle and placed it on the piston, Lent on it with my chest and turned the piston with a pair if pipe grips being careful not to rough up the edges of the piston.

Really is a simple job.

I just want to make life easy for myself, don't want to start then have to faff about trying to get it to turn etc.

So would this tool do the job? The price is right, end of the day I just want to spend 30mins either side and get the job done quickly. I've found in the past without the correct tools a 30minute job can soon turn into a 3 hour job! And 6 hours changing 2 sets of pads doesn't sound too appealing lol.

The thing is, IIRC one of the pistons winds in the opposite direction. I'm sure I read somewhere on this Forum that Fiat sell or can get you the right wind-in tool about £15 - £20.

I think it was T14086 or Argonaught who posted the Thread... (y)

I've read through that thread.... its actually easier searching with google than through the forum search lol.

The problem with the Fiat one is i'd have to to a Scottish Fiat dealer, and they are all Arnold Clark.... so i'd either a. be unable to order the item or b. be charged the earth lol.

So how about this one http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/T...-Service-Tools/Brake-System-Tools/?SEAVS024&0

It says double ended, so assume double action, winding both ways. Plus I can order my pads there too and get free delivery and have the job done for £50 all in, instead of £120 from a garage! :)

Hmmmm.... not seen that offering in Guides before which could really be a bit more informative :(

Here's the original thread that contains the part number of the Fiat tool.

Personally, I swear by it as it makes the job a doddle instead of a potential pain (and potentially expensive if you mess up).

If anyone is desperate then I'll order one from my local Fiat/Alfa specialist as long as they cover cost & carriage (y) (just PM me)

See.... Argo really IS a good dude! (y)

Very generous of you Argo, I take it your Fiat dealer isn't staffed by gimps then?
I was referring to Italian Car Spares (POOLE) which is an independent Alfa/Fiat garage.

Gordon (the owner) doesn't want any visits from Forum members telling him how to fix Fiats (dig at me I suspect :ROFLMAO:) but he's amiable enough :D

That's pretty logic, hehe, but which one turns what way? ;)

Is it like bicycle pedals (which also is what I call "links"), so you constantly keep tightening them while pedaling?

i think iirc (dont hold me to this) that the drivers side (right hand side) turns clockwise towards front of the car and the passenger side turns anti-clockwise again towards front of the car.
