Morning All Newbe here , I am the proud owner of a 52 Plate Abarth(Selespeed) which up untill now has been relatively problem free but over the last week I have been having the message "Gearbox Failure - Return to Dealer" appearing a number of times on a daily basis ,it's been in to dealership once but theyve not identified the problem , It's booked to go in again but was just wondering if anyone had similar experiences. The message pops up at any time and never stays for longer than 30 seconds.

I had exactly that problem - then it started to doing it almost constantly one day, then went away again. Dealer put it on the examiner which identified one of the sensors. Took it out cleaned it, and rerouted the wiring as it was very tight, and it seemed to fixit.

AFAIK, if the car reports a problem it must log it, and this should be visible to the examiner. Someone like Ned or FiatExpert should be able to confirm.

BTW when this fault appears - you CANNOT change gear. So if it comes on for any length of time your stuffed!

There was on older cars a mod on the wiring of the Selespeed where a connector was rerouted under the battery box to protect it from water ingression - I believe Ned posted on this some time back

I had this warning come on ages ago, during the Fiat Rally last year!

Soon went away when I restarted it, mind you. And hasn't reappeared since.

Thanks for the info and the welcome , by the way froggie have you had any repeats since the last fix prior to your france trip.

Hi Seany,
happy to say (with crossed fingers, touching large piece of wood) no, lots of other warnings and bells but gearbox fine, get it in to the dealer they should be able to sort it (y) Welcome to the Stilo experience!!! :p

Hi Seany, I had the gearbox failure message at the same time as ASR failure! both messages lasted constantly for about 2 days then cleared up completely?, In auto mode it would not change gear but manual was fine. Took it to the dealer(who said they couldnt fit me in for 3 weeks!) and told them politely i wanted them to check it out now, They found the sensor under the brake pedal was knackered so they put in a new pedal assembly and sensor(4 weeks after the initial warning), Hope this helps.

Geoff, 52 plate Abarth sillyspeed.

ps. All my warnings started after i slammed on the brakes.....???
