Technical help, gna cry, difficult to engadge gears, reverse near impossible....

hi peeps, need some guidance if you please...

today after accelerating hard (dont know if its linked, was hard to get into 4th for about 2 days previous), its really difficult to get it into any gear....and reverse, also whilst in 1st, clutch down it still feels like its gripping....
and when pulling off its really juddery.
also when trying to engage reverse it grinds as if clutch is up....

btw its a 1.8 petrol dynamic 02 plate

any suggestions??
im thinking slave cylinder of clutch??

both i belive are ****ing expensive on the 1.8.... :bang:

Lord help me man get a grip..[PNL crosses himself] + hail Mary..;)

Yep if its the slave then you got problems cos it a concentric one and lives inside the bell housing of the box..I think there is a bleed point on the bell housing some where so check it out first it has to be bled at 2 bar but if its leaking then look forward to a good pocket rape when you get it done..<<< you got me at it now..:p

Possible bleed point..lower pic of the two..

and here it is hiding inside the box..

Looks like Dr.Max has been there and worn the T shirt..£600 with a clutch which should be changed when they take the box out..afteer all you dont want a reurn journey if the clutch should fail at a later date ..they bleed a concetric with air pressure at 2bar..from what I know of it..centre pic..

okies, had a little bleed today, did nothing, made some gypsie mechanism from an air compressor....held at 2 bar. worked nicely

but did nothing, exactly the same.

but i did some clear-thought testing....and this is what ive come up with
some times it disengages perfectly, sometimes its stiff and sometimes its impossible to engage any gear (you can hear/feel the synchro working)
my dad suggested it felt like the the clutch was "wobbling" sound plausible??

btw might be worth re-noting this happened whilst accelerating hard.....any links here?? my dad reccons it could have sheared a bolt, but neither of us know the car wlel enough to guess properly.....

oh and a side note, if anyone that can do anythign is reading this, when i download the elearn cd image, and try to extract it it gets to 7% and fails.....cant understand why??

The file you downloaded is corrupt, you need to download it again. Also, you don't have to extract the image, just burn it to CD.

looks like you will not avoid it :( if it's inside the gearbox (as your fault appears to be) then it'll have to be opened (in which case get the clutch done regardless.. would be cheaper overall) don't think any bolts failed but depending on operation, fitting and slave/plate condition - the chances are the clutch's had it ensure no fault with master cyl is present before you resort to the above or gear stick linkages/springs

hmm, yeh i did as much as i could today....but no joy....will take it tomorrow to mechanics....ill also take a seat before i ask the price, at least i know that any work done will be quality full guaruntee etc etc got loads done there before on various cars, very good guys.....worth noting, its at 40k, still on first clutch, this normal faliure territory??

sigh....at least i wont need to do it again.....and ive taken the cambelt blow already, should be cheap motoring for a bit afterwards!!! (goes and hugs a tree)

edit: ok, ive come to terms with large bill, but what could have failed??? it feels like nothing me or my dad have felt b4 (hes had ALLOT of very broken cars lol, then he went japanese, 15 years 1 fault....)

most likelly concentric or clutch (fingers? i think they call em) are too far gone (not lifting enough) although there's always a chance it's your gear box.. that'll be more than 600 then

ok just come back from mechanic, left car there hes gna have a look at it.
quoted me
labour £250
clutch price around £120
slave around £80

so not quite £600....

only question, does the stilo have a dual mass flywheel??? the mechanic cant remember, and says if it does then if that needs replacing dual-mass wheels are around £400-600
were both hoping its single mass...

sfar as i remember it's just a plain old solid fly wheel :) (got one about somewhere - could have a look if need be)

excellent price on labour and clutch! you must let me know about the place ;) then again i also had the fly wheel replaced (all fiat oem)

its an excellent garage!!! on green lanes in Palmer's green, advice is free all the time, and they don't **** u about with ums and ahhs.

would bring allot of relief if i knew for definite that it was solid...but if its to much trouble doubtless ill find out from mechanic soon...

suppose owning a fiat, you end up building a rapor with the local mechanic :p

Can somebody tell me if Stilo 1.9 JTD can show problems with gear box anytime cuz i see alot of petrol cars got this problem?
