Hi

I had to get my tyre replaced and was told by Kwik Fit that the off side CV Book Joint is leaking. They quoted £50 to replace, is this something I need to do asap or is it something I can live with for a month or 2?

They also put on a budget tyre and it doesn't feel the same as before to drive, can I tyre change this?

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul, KwikFit should be a last resort really IMO, but its done now.

I had a CV joint gaiter replaced for £35 by a trusted mobile mechanic. Its not something you should leave as the joint will lose all its lubrication grease and get grit in it, causing rapid failure of the constant velocity joint, plenty more expensive! I believe it is always better to change both tyres on the same axle for the same type if you can stretch to it, different tyres may have different grip characteristics, particularly in the wet.

If it's only a small hole and on a flat area
clean the boot off and use a cycle punture
repair patch and glue to cover the hole as a
"Stop Gap" untill you can get the boot
replaced.

Any water or grit that gets into the CV joint
wil cause serious wear and the joint will need
replacing.

Some of my temporary repairs have lasted
years and passed MOT's ok

Hi

Took this to proper garage rather than Kwikfit and was fixed for minimal cost! Not the £45 as recommended by Kwikfit!

Thanks for your help with this subject.:)
