Things I can think of:

Check that the timing belt has been changed (if over 40k or over 3 years old)

Check if any warning lights come on such as airbag warning light.

Has it had the suspension spring recall work done?

JTD is a very good one to go for with the stilo, very economical.

Sorry I cant be of more help.

going to see one on sunday, its a 06 and is the 120 sporting one.

will check all lights and timing belt thanks.

the suspension recall is that just something to do with the springs?

yer the JTD just seems more sense after the punto sporting as will use less fuel and insurance is 700 cheaper(y)

thanks for the advise

If it's an 06, cambelt may not have been done, unless the mileage is really high of course.

Spring recall basically means a "spring catcher" has been fitted for the front springs. It's affectionately known as "Meccano" around here as it's essentially a metal claw at the bottom of the strut to hold the spring in place should it snap.

Airbag warning light is common, though if it's a dealer, they can easily sort it out before you take delivery...could be a bargaining tool. Check things like tyre wear for tracking problems...Stilo's can have issues with that. Rust for dodgy body repairs as the Stilo's galvanised (though on an '06, shouldn't be a problem) and the standard things like service history and general condition of the car inside and out. If it's been well looked after with a fully stamped service book and is a decent price, I say go for it. I've seen almost nothing but praise for Stilo JTDs when you get a good'un (y)

Also, as a may be said, do a search in this section for anything you think may be relevant based on your search options...JTD, problems, buying, etc. There's probably plenty a thread full of advice that can help from previous people asking the same :)
