When under 2k revs in any gear, the car stutters when accelerating. By stutter i mean misses in some way, split second drop in power then its back.

Normal driving is fine, its just when i put my foot down to increase speed quickly.

It doesnt do it all the time, but its particularly bad in the wet/damp.

I've tried more gradual acceleration on days i've found it doing it but i found i had to accelerate slow as a bus to get rid of the stutter which is obviously no good.

While trying to find the problem i discovered one of the catches was open on the air filter box and i could almost get my fingers in the gap between cover and box with ease at the bottom.

I closed the box up and the problem became less requent, yestarday it didnt do it, today it did it a lot. Differance is its REALLY hot today, where as yestarday was cooler.

I would guess that the filter is now full of crap and possibly soden/soaking/damp (i've just come back from a very wet camping trip where the stutter was at its worst, before i found the air filter box was open) and its still affecting the air coming into the car.

I'm i half right or completely off my trolly? :D

I think you're on the right track to start with, replace the filter and i'd leave the air box open for a few hours to mke sure any water dries out.
If not much has got in you should be fine.
You didn't state wich engine you have?

EDIT:
I'd also check everything electrcial around the engine bay and battery for signs of water ingress. Check the D4 connector, etc (see GUIDES section)

Off your trolley is my guess :D (you did buy a FIAT) seriously though change the filter element, they are cheap and pretty easy to do as it sounds like the engine is being starved of air

Now, my dad being my dad whos car mad, keeps saying to me, dont even bother getting a new filter, he says just remove the whole box and replace the filter system with a K and N filter system.

Now, from what i gather this is a good thing, increased power, better air cleaning etc.

So, if i was to do this, what system would folks recomend?

This is just a standard filter, but what about these?

I'm trying to picture just how that fits under the bonet.

Hello,
I bought my fiat stilo, 6months ago. And every time i want to accelerate fast, the car only acc. for 100rpm and then stops, then its starts for another 100rpm and so on and so on. It's not a smoot acc. It's really anoyying a have changed diesel filter, air filter,.. O and i scan it with fiat scan and there were 2errors (P0235,P0236) . Can you help me:confused:

Car is 1.9jtd 85kw

Sounds like you have a turbo issue buddy (n)

Power cutting in and out like that sounds like the turbo cutting in and out to me anyway but i dont own a JTD so im no expert just two years of mechanics under my belt so still a rookie but sounds like that to me

I think it's a problem with your boost valve it's normally mounted vey low down with a thin tube alot of people move it to the battery box if it's causing issues I think there's a guide on the guides section. Anyways check the tube and the electrical connection.

If it's not the boost valve it could be the maf sensor to test it you unclip it and go for a drive if things improve it's the maf.

Another possibility is the egr valve which you can blank off to see if it's the problem.

hello
The boost valve i mounted on bat tray. It's this maf behind air filter? And i have blinded the erg. I think to it's turbo.

I boughted this sensor 2 months ago. And it cost me 60€ for nothing. One of mecanichs said i could have problems with hoses. So i'll just take it to him and he will looke at them thanks so far.
