General Undertray Again

Over the last few years there's been a number of threads discussing undertrays and their apparent rarity. I am lucky enough to still have mine after noticing it wasnt fitting properly and taking it off before it fell off. There were many holes in the edges where someone must have tried to refit it in the past and I bought a set of clips and self tappers ready to do a proper job. I never had chance to do this as events took over and I have only just got my Stilo back on the road after many months as detailed in one of my other threads. So now I want to replace the undertray. On examination I found that the side panels have smashed off so there is nothing to fit the tray to. Am I looking at buying complete wheel arch liners with the side panels moulded on and if so where can I get these? I have just spent an hour trawling the net but only find sites that want all your details then bombard you with unwanted e-mails for the rest of your life. None on ebay so any advice welcome please.

Wheel arch liners/under tray and all associated parts are OEM..so if fiat dont do it then I think your not going to get any of special part/s that you are looking for from another source..I havnt seen or found any with many hours scouring the net for parts ..has anyone else ? :chin:

it is feasible - if you find a stilo being taken apart.. but no.. never saw any being advertised.. wheel arch moulding is about £65 from fiat

Wheel arch liners are completely separate to side panels so you wont need those.

would be worth trolling some scrap yards I think for these dont you..:chin:

There was no obvious reason why the damage should have occured other than speed bumps which I'm pretty careful with. I crawled under last weekend and found a few bits loose and a bolt sheared although it was in a recessed piece of plastic covering what I am assuming are tubes to the rear brakes. I had to drill it out and use a self tapper. There was also a sheet of alli that terminated at the rear of the back axle and the metal had just torn away over the bolt head. I fixed this with a large washer. All this may have been a previous owner as I think it was a corporate car from new until I bought it. I do find the plastic rather thin and it seems to crack easily. I once read an interview with a senior exec from FIAT who said they realised they could have done a better job on the trims that came with the Stilo

As I said I still have the centre piece so maybe I will try and form the sides from alli sheet. I have seen a place on the net offering full ally undertray assembies for a price.

Thanks for all the advice, I think youve confirmed its not worth trawling the net anymore and unless I find a breaker I either pay FIAT or come up with something.

Noticed today that the mid-section of my undertray is missing. Side bits are still there, but the NS bolt has rusted off completely, so not sure how to effectively reattach this unless I re-drill and somehow use self tappers.

On the arch liner note, the clip that held it on the bumper sheared off a while back on mine and the liner got ruined. Got a second had one off eBay for something like £15 and used some bolts with locking washers to re-attach. Not had problems in the past year or so since sorting it

I drilled 5mm holes at intervals and 'laced' the undertray into position with 3 cable ties on each side. Only the front bolts remained as standard. Less vulnerable to vibration & rust, and has a bit of movement available if you go over debris. Not saying it's the best answer, but it's worked for me with 2 Stilo's with combined 150,000 hard miles.

Yeah, the Fiat dealership did exactly this while they bodged my inner CV boot by using another cable tie. But that's another story...

If I could source the main centre undertray, I'd use either the original self tapping bolts they used or a few bolts with a nylock nuts and washers. Never like to use cable ties on a car if I can avoid it. Saying that, I'm sure it'd be okay for a while. Just more of a chance of losing it on the motorway or something.
