Technical Broken upper glovebox hinge, help

hi people, been doing some searching, and this seems to be a problem many have, but a concrete solution does not exist...
just want to know if anyone has manged to fix it, or had it fixed
what does it entail? and how much does it cost?

mine went today, i use it allot, so it MUST be fixed....
im concidering fitting new hinges off of kitchen corner doors (as i work in homebase)??

Rumour has it (and I don't think anyone has managed otherwise) that it's a dash out job :( I've got a broken hinge and I'd love to get it fixed but it's just not worth the effort or the cost.

As for using another type of hinge, I don;t think it'll work as the hinge is designed to allow the lid to move outwards to clear the top of the dash

How's your French? (lots of swearing. Ha!)

Stef is saying their dealers tend to quote for taking the dashboard out to do the job at estimated 5 hrs but also that one person managed it in 30mins (but they weren't shown how, duh!)

Doesn't tell you how to fix it but the pictures might help you. Bear in mind this is a LH drive car

There's always the Gaffa tape solution:)

Wondering if you could use some sort of strong epoxy or something to bond the broken hinge together. May not be a permanent solution, but could at least provide a temporary solution till you find out how to replace the actual hinge/door properly. Of course, this would only work if it were a clean break on the hinge :chin:

Yours is obviously better than ours..french that is :D..Had the wifes done within the first year she owned the car..was told by a friend who was a d.e.t at Glyn Hopkins [fiat dealer] that he had done it in one and a half hours..my dealer kept me hanging around for bloomin eight.. had a rattling in the car after they did it as well that is till the blooming socket they had been using fell out from under the dash..best part was when I retuned the socket and said I think this belongs to one of yours..:D

Nice, sounds like another classic Fiat dealer bit of workmanship :D

depnding upon how much you want to spend.... and for a tempo fix....

mine was broken at one side and not the other so i still had one good hinge.......

if you can find a decent small door or box hinge for instance, could you not drill it into the top, then attach the lid to it with small screws?? then put lightly sticky velcro pads on the bottom for somthing that it can easily close onto.... or quite simpy remove it full stop :)

sound advice, it is possible - thats precisely what i did. ended up spending a few minutes holding it together whilst curing though! not perfect, and had to be VERY CAREFUL when closing it - helping it close softly rather than slamming shut.

still, better than the 8+hr job i have seen quoted elsewhere to this thread...

Could be be murder this one if you wanted a pee..:p

Dealer didnt take our dash out just dismantled upper and lower glove boxes ..had a good talk about this to me mate and he assured me thats the way the dealers in the know do it ;)..he said it is a pain of a job and you need to be very agile with your hands though to get to the awkward areas..

you dont have to take the dash out yes it is easy to do it that way but you can do it with the dash in 4 star screws ts20 on hinge 3 on glove box liner on the top and a lot of swearing and pataince but it can be done took me 30 mins to do it this way :slayer:

Its not worth the effort, i dont think it will shut properly unless you have a really flat HU ;) And even if it does it will just snap off again when you need access to it. They were a pants design and if you ever need to use that compartment you are best off taking out the Hinges and sealing up the holes to make it look more OEM.
