Brake pads worn warning light WTF!

About four days ago I got new front discs and pads. I've been braking quite progressively and avoided any hard braking as apparently it will glaze the discs and cause squeeking. However if I hold my foot on the brake sometimes I get a warning light come up saying 'Brake pads worn' and it will stay on until a brake for a few seconds again...

Just wondered why it's doing this, any idea?

It also screeches a fair bit when i go round roundabouts... is that normal for new brakes?

Thanks

Re: Brake pads worn warning light WTF!

When I replaced the front pads on the 1.6 the rusty edge of the disc outer had almost worn through the wire to the pad that triggers the warning by creating a short circuit and bringing the warning light / message up.

From memory it was fitted to the outside of the caliper whereas it should have been fitted to the inside, so fix may be swapping pads round and applying masking tape to the pad wire to prevent the short circuit

Take it back and complain as it sounds like the pad wear warning cable is not fitted properly.

I'd also want to know that they've fitted the correct pads i.e. that they don't just snip the cable to stop it working

no and no
either pads not changed or sensor wire has been broken and touches on the body
with proper installation (and a bit of copper grease) brakes make no sound within human hearable range

Echo that, I replaced Mrs Ffoxys front pads and no issues, didnt use any coppaslip, 3 months later I had to remove, clean and grease the back of the pads & all perfect now. If I can do it a "pro" should be able to...
