Hope you can help!

My Stilo 1.6 Dynamic 54 plate is making a medium pitched loud humming noise all of the time. You can hear it from inside the car but it sounds like something is rubbing. I have been told it is the alternator bearings or the alternator belt is too tight .... has anyone else had this problem and does it seem logical and nothing worse!

I need to get this fixed before I take it anywhere far

Any help is much appreciated!

It's bad enough if one of the bearings siezes.
It sounds like either alternator or waterpump or tensioner.
