hey all, just registered to the forum but have been reading the threads for a while now. very informative. i have just bought a new 05 stilo sporting 1.9 jtd in mourano blue. will post a picture when i figure out how to do it lol! my question is is there a k&n available for the petrol versions and would it fit easy enough on my 1.9jtd? or would there be a lot of messing about? after reading most of the threads on this subject i hear 'k&n don't do it' but im more after the noise to sound out the diesel engine as a pose to the performance gain. my previous car was i 1.2 16v punto and i had a k&n on that. was very easy to fit and was well impressed with the sound. which is why im after doing the same again. ive just bought a custom back box to give the car some noise but would still like to change the air filter if i can.

ive never owned a diesel before and to be honest when i lift the bonnet i scratch my head. could you also explain in a bit more detail about adjusting the erm actuator. tried reading the thread on this one but it just lost me an the link wouldnt work.

sorry again if this is a question repeated and i know im asking alot but any replies will be greatly appreciated!

thanks, Frank.

Air Filter

how do i get to the air filter box ppl, i can see, but do i really have to take the battery box off to replace the panel filter for a new one? (n)

Re: Air Filter

You don't say which model you have but I would guess you have one of the ones where you do it from underneath.

Haven't done mine yet but will have to have a look soon

Hello mate, I did mine on sat, you have to take the undercover off from the bottom of the engine, then you can get to it.
(ps use a K&N replacement it makes a real difference)

Re: Air Filter

well mine is a 1.9 JTD and you cant get inductio kits for it only panel replacements! so how do i get to the airfilter box from up above or below!!

Changing air filter on JTD - Question

Evening all,

Could someone look at the attached photo and confirm if the bolt i've pointed to needs to be removed to access the airbox? Found the photo in the CDA guide but i'm a bit unsure??

I attempted to change my air filter today and had a nightmare gaining access. The box just didn't open up enough from underneath to remove the panel filter. Is nothing simple on these cars:bang:

Re: Changing air filter on JTD - Question

Isnt that the centre bolt on the engine tray? Looks like you need some new front tyres too ;)

Re: Changing air filter on JTD - Question

Looks similar to the petrol engine, in which case no, you don't need to remove that bolt. Just undo the two clips and the airbox cover pivots open at the base to reveal the filter. You need to force the lid back just enough to get the old element out and the new one in.

Re: Changing air filter on JTD - Question

See where the hose pipe in the pic is then that is your air box to the right of it and you should see two metal clips[either side] just push them back an force open the cover and pull out the old filter and put in the new one ..make sure yu put it in the right way round ;)

as above not my photo, may well be a petrol engine.

Yep I got that far :bang: it was here i ran into problems in that the box lid wouldn't swivel/part enough to easlily remove the filter.
There is a smaller sealed box attached to or directly beneath the air box with a pipe attached that goes up into the engine bay. this pipe is right in the way and abit oily.
It seemed odd to me that you would have to force a new clean filter through a small gap surronded by dirty engine parts. Would defeat the object of replacing the filter in the first place if it's dirty before you get it into place:confused:

that's why i assume that i'm missing something.....HELP:cry:

I've drawn in the photo to show where it is, as i didn't notice the copied photo was different, sorry

I did my JTD the other day. I had to disconnect the 'oily pipe' at it's lower end and push it aside, there was then just enough room to unclip the lower airbox clips and hinge it open just enough to slip the filters through.

'Orrible job, nearly as unpleasant as the pollen filter...

steve148,
thanks for the reply, at least it wasn't just me !!!

What was keeping your "oily pipe" attached. Mine seems to have a weird jubilee type clip but nothing to loosen or undo to get it off ?
How did you remove it? i was afraid to just yank it.

funny question but Was your pipe oily too?

air filter

Anybody changed the air filter on a 03 JTD 115???? does it make much of a difference to sound/drivability???? and finally was it easy to do??? i aski= this because the air filter box is under the battery. Any recommendations as to a good air filter would be great K&N etc(y) .

Re: air filter

I replaced mine with a BMC panel filter, no noticable difference in peformance but does sound nicer.......... was a royal pain in the arse to change though. the JTD has pipework directly underneath the air box that is right in the way and hinders opening the air box enough to slide out the old filter.
Luckly the BMC isn't as wide so slid in nicely, wouldn't have wanted to put a standard one back in, the chances of getting dirt/oil on it during refitting would have been very likely.

Since i did mine, i've read on here that someone else cut the metal retaining clip off this annoying pipe and replaced it with a jubilee clip. there seems no easy way to remove the old clip without cutting it.

Hope this helps

JTD K&N box filter

i was just wondering, would it be wrth putting in a K&N box filter in my 115 JTD. I'm not fussed on getting an induction kit yet but would this be worth it? I've seen on here a few people saying they get the engine warning light when they've put their induction kit in, would this occur with the performance box filter as well?

cheers

Wouldn't make the light come on no as the panel k&n filters are just made of different materials to a standard air filter thus allowing more/denser air through it.

re: JTD K&N box filter

got one in mine, only a little difference from paper filter performance wise(feel anyway)the k+n(and others) comes pre oiled you need to clean and re oil every 5,000 miles or so and if you over do the re-oil you can bugger your maf and coat it in oil,so its said, never seen it myself .

:eek:I think your mileage for clean and re-oil is a out by a factor of 10! K&N reckon about every 50,000 (see question 4):

re: JTD K&N box filter

I -sort off- bought a used K&N for my 1.6. I already love it.
If you follow instructions for cleaning and re-oiling they are almost indestructible.

PS Phil, there's a greetingcard on it's way to you....;)
