Was driving it today and it took about 15 minutes of regular driving before light came on and temperature gauge was off the scale... I let it cool for 15 minutes and drove it home with the windows down and hot air on full.

My coolant level always remains the same and the fan kicks in while im driving. It doesn't overheat while stationary and the pipe which looks like it leads to the radiator is very hot after driving but the pipe leading away remains cold...

Any advice on the problem, my guess is an airlock or water pump failure?
Does the stilo have a bleed valve on the radiator?

A separate issue is that most days it displays 'Stop' 'engine oil low' even after topping the oil up? yet it always runs fine.

Thanks for your help

A coil went last week and found that my alloy had cracked

Youy need a new thermostat.

It controls when the water is allowed to flow through your radiator so the engine doesnt get cooled before its warmed up, but when they wear out they dont open up early enough anymore.

Not a very expensive thing to sort though :)

Coolant goes firstly from the engine into and around the cabin heater. Then if there's any excess heat, the engine thermostat opens and sends coolant for some cooling to the front radiator.

If the pipe leading to the radiator from the thermostat housing is hot then the thermostat is opening.

The pipe at the base of the radiator shouldn't be cold if the top one is hot. Cooler - yes but not cold when everything else is up to temperature

If the thermostat wasn't opening it would overheat when stationary too unless you have cabin heater fan on

As regards the other warning, do you mean "Engine low oil pressure"?

Sorry my fault should say it does overheat when stationary. Though this takes a lot longer to overheat and the cabin gets very hot also....

The top pipe is hot and the bottom pipe stays cool..

Ok - quick test. From engine cold, start up and hold the large pipe from thermostat housing to the radiator. After a while - bit of a wait- you should feel a sudden rush of very hot water in the pipe. From ambient temp to 85C in one go. Ow! That's when your thermostat opens.
Feel the rush? Your thermostat is opening

Pipe never getting hot- thermostat jammed shut
Pipe slowly getting warm but never too hot to hold- thermostat jammed open

But that radiator bottom hose always cold isn't right and points to a problem there. Watch your hands down there near the rad fan which can kick in even with engine off. Blood and fingers everywhere
