Guys i need your help im writing this post for a friend which his english speaking isnt the greatest anyways here goes. Alot of people here are starting to convert their stilos to abarths.

He had a 1.2, bought an abarth in germany brought it over as parts test drove it to see everything was working fine and starting dissasembling both cars and transferring everything from the abarth to the 1.2 body shell. Since he was in the process of removing the engine he decided to service it also by changing the thermostat and timing belts. THe problem though was that to remove the thermostat easier he decided to remove the base of the electric valves of the selespeed and the black rubber hose all together without touching anything else.

He starts the engine and everything seems ok and turns the engine off. While it was off he tried to change gears and got up to second and then it got stuck. It wont change up or down or anything. The other bad thing is now he cant start the engine unless he puts it in neutral. No warning signs flash or errors come up on the dash and putting an obd diagnostic tool doenst come up with any gearbox errors. At this point he changed the fluid tank of the selespeed and refilled it but wasnt sure if venting any air from the system is required. Anyways if anyone can help with any diagnostic info to figure out the problem would be a big help.

I think if you tamper with anything to do with the selespeed unit it needs the car to be connected to a fiat examiner to perform the advanced functions such as EOL calibration/pressurise etc.

Did you check for errors with an Examiner or was it another diagnostic tool?

You really need the Examiner to do all the advanced diagnosis on the selespeed ECU and perform the actuator tests pressure etc.

There are some other ways of reading some data from the selespeed cfc ecu but not enough to help you here, I would really try and get the car to somewhere who can connect it to the examiner for you.

Hi just read this thread and i have just FIXED the same problem on my 2002 abarth.I had a air flow meter fault and the car would not change in to 3rd with the car running(n) i thought it was a sillyspeed problem so i started to plug and unplug all the plugs and censors with the bat earth off but when i turned the key on the car was also stuck in 2nd:bang: so with the key on i unpluged the 3 sillyspeed primers and pluged them back in all with the key on,as i pluged them in one by one i got a ping gear box fault  so i turned the key of and on again with my foot on the brake and the whole car jumped back in to (R):eek:then jumped in to (N):D.I changed the air flow meter and re set the fault code with a elm scan tool, and reset the sillyspeed by turn key on and open and close drivers door 10 times and now i have no cold start judder no jerky up and down change the car runs beter than it ever has in over a year :D good luck (y)

Thats normal isnt it? My car blew some fuses when I fitted an induction kit and wouldnt go above second when running, due to limp home mode or whatever its called. Fixed the problem and cleared the codes and can choose any gear.

The OP's issue is that the car is stuck in a particular gear.

Yes thats right, But i tought there was a bigger problem to begin with because the sillyspeed has been playing up in the last few weeks:confused:

So i started playing with the the censors etc, because all the elm was telling me was (air mass fault) which as you will know is common when you have a induction kit.

And the result i got was the gear box stuck in 2nd gear.

I HAD NO 1st 3rd 4th 5th REVERSE OR NEUTRAL.:bang:

Sory i never made the first post very clear i hope this is a bit more help
