Driving back last night from work, and was playing with the trip button on the right hand stalk!

BUT then I noticed the right hand display which shows the odometer was flashing  - the lights were on, and only the mileage was flashing intermittently! It still clocked up the next mile, though. When I stopped and restarted car, flashing had stopped.

Any idea what this signified???

I know this thread is from 2004, but it just happened to me today.
There were and are no errors messages displayed.
The only thing I can think of what I did wrong, it is -1°C outside and I did not wait for the diesel heating coil light to go off. I stopped the car at my destination and it stopped flashing after I restarted her.

If a node on the CAN network fails to register properly for some reason the result would be a flashing odometer. If the node has an intermitant fault(poor earth for example) causing it to fail to connect properly intermitantly the result would be an intermitant flashing odometer, sometimes it flashes, sometimes it don't.

Reading the error codes from the body computer will give you a much better idea of which node/nodes is causing the problem.
