Hi all

First time posting in here so please be gentle with me

I have today started getting the Preheat fault code on my 53 JTD. I start the car (after waiting for the light to go out) and once the system checks have completed i get this error.

Now my question is will it damage the car at all? I have in the last 3 weeks had to get the coil springs replaced as well as the bushes i have also had to tax and MOT it so i am rather skint lol.

My first priority prior to this was to get the braked pads/disks replaced as they were picked up on an advisory on the mot and i would rather get them done sooner rather than later.

Realistically i am unable to afford it for another couple of months or so, would this be a problem? I only had a problem free car for 2 days as the bushes were done on thursday

Thanks

Deb

Thanks (y)

There is no way i would attempt to do anything about it myself, i am not at all mechanically minded lol It would be a garage job ;)

don't worry about it as long as you can ignore the warning for 30 seconds when the display clears. I have had the pre-heat warning for over 12 months, after investigation it is one of the glowplugs that as gone, the other 3 are ok, the car starts ok even through this winter although I will get them changed this summer about £25-£30 for 4

I had the preheat fault on my 2002 Stilo, but it disappeared after a few days. Why did this happen? Fuel? A bad connection that got better? Anything else?

Just got this myself, diagnosed it as cylinder 3 using the help in the guides.

Rang Fiat this morning to get a price for a single glow plug telling them its cylinder 3 and they want £74.16!! Thinking about giving it a go myself.

Hi Tizzyrb,

As other posters have said, it's a "mend it in a bit" issue not a "Don't drive the car" issue. It'll wait till after Christmas as long as the car still goes (y).

The labour on changing them should be pretty low too as it's just a case of undoing a bolt and a wire. I'd get A Man to do it though as it's a bit fiddly and they can break.

Forza Stilo!
