Well for a start its a 5 door, so is going to be worth less anyway ;) :)

Nah, its a Fiat, not a BMW or Mercedes. When you buy a Fiat you know its gonna depreciate fairly quick (n) But its cheaper than average to buy new........I wouldnt buy another brand new car, im gonna look for a nearly new ex demo JTD or a pre-registered JTD next

F-ing hell! Over 50% lost (using trade in value)! That's got to hurt! TC tried to sell his and didn't even get one interested party aswell.

Pinin, it's so obvious: :p

The modern sick as a parrot recorded from the 1970s—at one time much overused by British sportsmen as the opposite of over the moon—refers to a state of deep mental depression rather than physical illness; this perhaps comes from instances of parrots contracting psittacosis and passing it to their human owners.

Bought my £25k top of the range ex demo Ulysse from a Fiat main dealer for £14K at 12 months old with 2k miles.

There are worse depreciating cars:
Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph (98-02) Saloon V12 4dr
Saloon 4dr
2003-03
Mileage 18,000
Cost new £169,000
Trade in £71,399
("What Car" values)

Well im paying just £13,200 for a car that would have cost over £18,000,
yes its brand new made to order, and iv'e been given a garanteed trade in price of between £7000 and £7500 in 4 years time if I buy from the same place..so im not too worried about depreciation.. if I had paid the full £18,000 then maybe I would have been a little worried to lose £11,000 in 4 years..

Oh dear, don't say you've taken one of those PCP things, which is basically a 3 year lease, with a final payment based on the cars market value!

I got my £10,500 car for £7488, if i'd bought a one year old Stilo instead of a pre-reg i'd have paid the same at a dealer (couple of hundred quid difference at best), but get on ebay and snap up a bargain.

Reason Twinncams didn't get a sale is he put on too high a reserve, there are loads of Stilo's on ebay changing hands for £5k

The 5door 1.6 Dynamic here had a list price of £12500 aprox and we picked it up at 17 months old and 13k miles on it. Paid £7000. So it lost over 5k in that time. Looked at similer aged cars from other manufacturers and they where all at £9000.
Fiats are always great for the buyer, but bad for the seller. If you own a Fiat youve got to except that

No way... I brought this car outright..just got a really good deal and dealer..
just pays to know the right people ;)

it is true that fiats depreciate more quickly than some makes, but with the discounts that are available, it takes the edge off it. i`ve said this before on this forum and i will say it again.

YOU CANT PUT A PRICE ON STYLE

Interesting, never heard of dealers giving guaranteed trade-in prices on a car bought outside of any contract terms and conditions.....

Well done, although lets hope the dealership doesn't change franchise - KIA anyone???

I paid £7200 for a 1.2 active with alsorts thrown in for free (i.e mats, stereo facsia tints 50% of first service, £30 of 12k service etc). it had 4k on the clock, was used for 5 months by the garages service department manager as a showcar (hence tints and also 17" wheels, i had to take wheels off...bastard direct line), They give me £800 for my 96 Seat Ibiza when no-one else would give me more than £450-£500. What really made me feel chuffed was the car at the time was for sale for £8695, now after the reduction to £7.2 + the goodies i got a finance package through the dealer with black horse, not fiat, its over 4 years (the time i want to have the car) @ £179 PM and with interest i pay back £8592- less than it was for sale for. My mate paid £9k cash for a similar car 2 months later from another dealer.

And its mine when its paid for.

my advice, by a car after christmas.

I think the worst depreciators are either front-engined Ferraris (such as the 456 or 550) or top-end German saloons like the Audi A8, 7 Series or S Class.
Those things can be picked up for about 50% of their new price after 2 years and the thing is the first buyer wouldn't get a discount whereas the first buyer of a Fiat should.

not being funny, but its a 5 door and, you get less of an audience with them, young drivers like myself go 4 the 3 doors and more older people to, they are smarter

best thing to do is never get a brand new car!!!! just get a 1 year old car,

unless of course its a bmw or merc..

Wow, loads of replies!
I know I made a mistake getting the 5 door, in fact it was a mistake taking the missus to the garage at all :-( women!
I knew I was going to lose a lot (maybe not that much) but I fully intended to keep the car for 4 years. Maybe I still will, but it'll have to be sorted.
I wonder if I'd get much sueing Fiat when I crash in the snow due to their defective craftmanship?
