General problems i came across on the fiat stilo
1)Air Bag problem-stupid cable under the seat was too blame still does it every now and then though. people check it out cause the stupid fiat service place i took the car (which happens to be one of the biggest in greece) just used a freakin tie rap i think that is such a cheap unproffesional way to fix it.

2)Clutch-after having the car for 3 months it kind of squeaks but not just doesnt feel smooth as it was when i first drove it.

3)Classic gearbox whining in reverse. still didnt manage to get that checked out. any ideas why it does that?

4)SKY WINDOW. yes its the pimpiest thing on the car but sometimes when i put it on a setting to close it a notch it sometimes stops on the setting on the war or goes back.

5)Handbrake-maybe i was stupid enough or it does have a general design problem but maybe i did not lift the handbreak hard enough but as mentioned by another person in the forum mine rolled back and stopped on a car very little scratches though was rolling down reaaally slowly.

6)KANGAROO effect- i thought i suck as a new driver (no people not entirely new i have been driving for almost 6 years but i was mostly driving automatic cars) but others also mentioned that when you slowly move off when the engine is cold the engine makes the car go back and forth on the acceleration.

7)BACK BUMPER-wasnt fitted on correctly by the factory and the boot door was making small marks on it so i got it re fitted again.

8)DRIVER SEAT- when put on a front setting on the horizontal plane the seat didnt seem it clicked into place moving about 1 cm back and forth but made driving difficult. got the rails changed but still think it does it very slightly.

I dont want to say the car sucks i mean i love the car to hell but it does actually suck when these problems occur just owning the car for 4 months i hoped it would happen later. i love the car the looks are amazing especialy the 3 door which i happen to own and the sky window is the best of all the car. still felt i should have gotten a 1.8 even though the car is 108 hp as a 1.6 the car is pretty heavy about 1.4 tons compared to my 900 kilo punto.

Manual gearbox work properly visit Your service and tell them that the element that connets Your shift with gearbox is made of alumnium and it oxidises, it simply needs cleaning. It happens more often to stilo's with diesel engines but those that work on gasoline sometimes cause this trouble too. I have the same problem with airbags. Greetings from Poland.

Dear Stilatos,
i have owned my 3d stilo for 4 months too and i came across with two of your problems. The one with the clutch and the one with the gearbox. I visited the fiat service and they had it fixed in 15 minutes. Both problems are created by the high temperature of our countries (same problem have the Peugeot in our country). More specific i found the a special cream used for the clutch felt all on the mat. The service quy just took off the cream that is not the appropriate for this climate and added some oil suitable for high temperatures. Same case with the gearbox.
Hope i helped.
P.S: I you take the care to replace the cream make sure you cover your mat with an old cloth because the **** turned my mat into an oily mess [:(!]

My clutch pedal started squeaking yesterday. [:(!]

Plus I get the kangaroo'ing too.

Do you think Fiat have all these faults built in and timed to start at specific points during ownership? ;)

i dunno but its getting on my nerves the many pluses of buying a new car is the feeling of not having to take it into a garage for the first year

I agree with that.
But after speaking with a cousin of mine who works i a peugeot garage and after hearing some people who own VW-Golf i say that stilo is just another european car. I mean is pretty much like the lottery. If you are lucky then you will not have any problems but if you are unlucky then you will never run out of problems. Before buying the Stilo i ouwned a Toyota Corolla for 5 years. I wasn't even typical with services and oil changes and that f****g engine did not complain a bit. Generaly speaking i didn't have a problem and so does the present owner. But that car doesn't have the great looks and the quality of the Stilo. Guys Stilo is the most good looking car in it's category.
I just love the d**m car even after hearing these problems.

I had this problem on one of my Stilo's. It's a fault and they changed the headlight for free. Get it done to yours otherwise you will be left with a rusty lamp.

My side repeaters were misting up, so I mentioned it to the dealer. He drilled holes in them to ventilate. [:0]

My BOOT OPEN warning light stays on. I have an Active Sport badge on the drivers side but nothing on the other. It's just an Active not Sport. Drivers side repeater catches are broken so I can lift it out of the wing. Repeaters also filled with condensation. No 12v in boot. Drivers window makes a screeching noise when closing, sounds like diamond on glass. Oh aye, got the car on Weds and a wumman drove into me on Thurs B)

active sport badge? never heard of such a thing. i know that the stilo comes in active and dynamic models but there was never any sticker inside to distinguish it just from the difference of the various add ons each model has

The Active Sport has single slot cd/alloys/leather steering wheel and gearknob over the Active. Not a sticker but a chrome badge under the side repeaters. Must be a new thing then as my JTD80 doesn't say 80 on the back either.

Boot light staying on means the lock's probably faulty. Mine was from the day I bought the car, until lock replaced 6 months (!) later. Now works fine with new lock. Before, the boot used to lock itself up and deactivate the electric release in the handle - couldn't override with the key, because there isn't a keyhole on the MW Dynamic tailgate!!

I got mine 1.8 Dynamic almost 4 weeks ago and I only have the squeaky noise on the driver's window. Ahh I got it without a mirror on the sunshade and a 12V socket in the boot, which I found out are standard.

This must be for the new models maybe till now the only way to find if its a dynamic or active was to look if it has a rain sensor or parking sensor

As usual with these little issues, make a list and take it to your dealer. They should go through them and sort them out under warranty - At least is you have a half-decent local dealer they will!!

Wherabouts in the UK are you Lester? Maybe someone in firum can recommend a good dealer in your area?

Hi rriggs, I'm in Northern Ireland unfortunately, and the car goes into the dealers on Tuesday to get sorted. I'ts just over a week old. Some old bat drove into the side of me the day after I received it. B)
