Hi, this is my first post as I'm quite new to the whole ownership of fiats so I'm just at a bit off a loss

I have a 1.6 active sport 04 reg and recently (the last week or so) when i'm taking a hard right corner, my oil light comes on and i get the message 'oil pressure low, switch off engine' (or something similar) but then when i look down it's gone off and everythings fine.
This only started over the weekend but is happening every hard right.
I'm hoping that it's because it's low on oil (i've not had chance to check the level yet)
So i was wondering if low oil level could be the case and also what oil do I need to use to top it up

Many thanks in advance

Yes, low on oil and the surge on hard cornering starves the oil pump feed

Watch it when you refill as the oil is clear and many have not detected it on the dipstick. Then they overfill the sump causing massive damage. So, if your oil is clean, check the dipstick for oil with a dry kitchen towel, run it down the dipstick and you'll soon spot whether there's any there or not. Put in no more than 1/2 litre at time and give it time to drain down

Try to put in the same type oil that's already in there

Thanks for that, it's a massive help

I went out to check the oil last night (which didn't work very well in the dark) and when I pulled out the dipstick out and cleaned it down, the bits of oil I could see on the tissue was quite dark but then when I put the dipstick in again to check when I pulled it out again there was no oil at all (which concerned me slightly) so I scooted of to halfords to by some oil, put in 1 litre in 2 intervals as suggested and then this morning seemed to be going round in circles with the ammount of hard right turns I made but amazingly enough no warning light so thanks again for the advice

2 further questions though if anyone can answer

what damage can over filling oil do to the car (as I said i'm quite a novice when it comes to cars)

and also I have received a fiat recall notice today regarding my suspension spring, should i be worried?

thanks

Over filling an engine with oil can mean you over pressurise the crankcase, seals blow out and lots of other very expensive events can happen. Just don't do it. If you ever do it then drain oil out BEFORE you start the engine

Lots of info on the front spring catcher mod as it's called. Never bothered with it myself, just changed the front springs. If you're on original springs then get the mod done is best advice. Even better advice is change the front springs, they only have a certain amount of life and WILL break. They're not that expensive and a garage can do both sides easily in a couple of hours

Hi all
Jonefon.
You don’t seem overly concerned running your car low on oil.
As deckchair pointed out a lot of damage can result in overfilling with oil, but running low on oil can be terminal for an engine.
The oil light coming on under normal driving is usually the last thing that happens before the engine goes bang.
If you don’t want to be buying a new engine dip the oil regularly and top up before you see the oil light.
