Lead: The "On The Road" charges includes 12 months road tax but I am currently being offered 6. Have told them to change it. I have costed out a replacement arm rest in beige leather so I have an idea of what cost I should be taking off my bill and it comes to about £180 plus VAT for the armrest unit. I dont think this includes the ski tunnel part. I think it will help me negotiate having a cost in writing. What a crappy reply for Fiat you had (the letter). It says absolutely nothing!

Kevin.peirce: It will say on the back in tiny writing that things are subject to change. It is their get out clause but I'm not sure how well it would stand up to being tested. There are many postings about the CD player problem, is it the main unit or the auto changer? I know people have this problem with the auto changer but I have the same unit in my Punto so I don't see why it should not work properly in a different car!

Update on my dealer. They called me to say I needed to fax over a cover note for today so they could register the car this month even though it won't be ready till next month. His reasoning was that I had to do this to qualify for the discount. What they made me do is illegal! I now have to call up Elephant.co.uk (who by the way are amazingly good and very cheap!) and change the policy back to my old car having paid £24 to change to the new one. They called me very early in the morning and woke me up so I wasnt too alert, if I had been thinking I would have said no as there is nothing anywhere stating that the deal I got was subject to delivery this month.

Lead...

your Stilo is without puddle lights...

you should check if your doors are still predisposed for them... maybe you could fit only the two lamps (maybe try to charge them to the dealer)...

I heard that in Italy some Stilo owners did it, because the first Stilos after changing were still predisposed...

Ciao!

Well I had a similar issue when ordering my car. I was entitled to an 18% discount throught the CSMA, but only if the car was registered before the end of March. It was getting close and there was no sign of the car. So I asked the dealer what would happen if it wasn't here and/or registered bfor the March deadline? Would I lose my discount? They said no.

As it turned out, we didn't get the car until the 7th of May. Remember the discount was only supposed to be valid until the end of March.

As far as sending a cover note prior to collection, this is normal practice I think. We did it. A friend at work just got a new car and she had to do it too. It's so the car can be registered and taxed in your name ready for collection. As for doing it a month in advance and to keep the discount, I think that is strange.

I found the puddle lights earlier, when replacing my speakers:

But it's not as simple as fitting bulbs. The holders don't have connections, but they are wired. So it looks like I may have to buy the holders to get the fully 'hooked up' ones.

It looks like the only way to get the car you want (from Fiat) is to buy one from the forecourt, not new from the factory.

All of these experiences really dishearten me :-(

I've had my Stilo for just over a year and had no issues with spec, delivery, price etc except:

I waited 6 months for a CD changer
the sky window rattles when you go overthe tiniest bump!
the driver door handle/trim is coming loose

My local dealer - whom i won't honour by naming - is claiming 'wear and tear' for the door handle. As for the sky window - ' i should expect that, it's all panels, not solid'!

I've had Fiat's all my driving life and was thinking of getting the new barchetta. It seems that Fiat's service, quality and reputation - despite the recent potential shown by the likes ofthe Bravo and Stilo - is going downhill again.

Time for a new brand?

Gazlaz ;-)
Stilo Dynamic, all the toys and the fab sky window

Gas, I'd take you car to another dealer for a second opinion if I were you! Just cus they work for Fiat, it doesn't mean they know anything about the cars! If you don't want to take it somewhere else ask them to take you out in another Stilo with a Sky Window and then take them out in yours to compare the window rattles.

To be honest If I was you I would not even purchase the car.

Nothing but problems since I've had mine and when you do encounter problems waiting until you see the after sales. Fiat just don't care.

Sorry to say this but it's got to be the worst car I've ever owned.

Don't get me wrong the car would be great if it were'nt an FIAT!!!

Yellow 3 door Abarth!

why oh why are fiat dealers etc so bloody crap at their jobs???
It seems to me that all car manufacturers are going the same way.
I do like my new Stilo but had i read the forums 1st i don't think i'd have bought one.

After lots of shouting at the dealer my car might finally arrive this week, 6 weeks after it was due to arrive! I am honestly dreading collecting it because I have no idea what to expect. I hope the weather is good when I do so I can spend a good amount of time checking it over for everything that should be there. The hard thing is going to be working out what should be there!

I ordered the car in April, after the official revision of the brochures in February but before they reached the showrooms in May! The price list the dealer used showed roof airbags as an option and not standard so I ordered those. Confused? ME TOO!!! I have told myself to expect everything the brochure I ordered from showed and am going to cause hell if the things aren't there. Now it might be petty but I really want the vanity mirror lights, 12v socket in boot, under driver seat storage, rear armrest/drinks holder/ski flap, puddle lights and god knows what else!

On the back of the order form it does say in the small print that if the specification changes they have to notify me and they haven't so I think I can reasonably say that I expect the spec from the brochure I ordered from (pre spec change). If the car comes without it they have effectively broken the agreement and I can walk away.

I'm nervous for you. I hope it goes well.

I seem to remember reading that one can refuse the car if it is more than two weeks over the delivery date too.

We ordered the leather gear knob and steering wheel with radio controls. We didn't get it. But the standard spec when we picked it up included a leather gear knob and steering wheel, so they refunded us what we paid for the radio control wheel option.

Thanks for being nervous for me Lead. I wish I had butterflies fluttering inside my stomach instead of these bloody elephants!

I have been told the reason my car is now 6 weeks late is that a wheel was damaged in transit and they have been waiting for a new one to arrive. Monday is now that anticiapted day for delivery, half way through the fifteen week mark from when the order was placed! [:0][:0][:0]

To get this information, I had to fax the dealer principal to explain how out of order it was that someone in the profession of selling cars could give no reasonable idea to customer when a car might arrive, to tell him I was getting leagal advise about walking away from the deal and to ask him to personally intervene to get the car to the dealership seeing as it has been at the holding station at the docks in Bristol for over three weeks! [:0][:0][:0] It seems that to get a delivery date Fiat dealers are ONLY able to contact the deliverers by fax [:0] and even then they are only given a day or twos notice of delivery so you can never know in advance. Being told by the dealer that they are as much in the dark as I am isn't exactly reassuring and to have to exert such pressure to find out simple information is yet another reason why Fiat is in such trouble! [V]

I called RAC Legal Services about rejecting a car if it is so late and was told that unless the contract has a specific delivery date on it you can't use that line. Having a verbal "Seven or eight weeks" (HAHAHAHAHA I know know Fiat weeks are like Builder weeks and Country miles) makes no difference. It's something that just didn't occur to me and a mistake I will certainly not make EVER again.

I don't plan to walk away from the car no matter what it is missing but I am just not looking forward to haggling with the ever grumpy sales manager at Caledonia Fiat in Blackburn over how much each little bit is worth. :(

Get on to your dealer threaten him buy saying if the cars not upto the standard you expect a new car in tell him you want a full refund as you are very pi$$ef off with the service you have received!, watch his face drop then, garaunteed he will make a phone call and tell them to hurry up!

Oh and if gives you crap about you cannot receive a full refund tell him thats you have already seeked legal advice about this matter and he's wrong! :D[}:)]

I have considerably more mods, THAN YOU!

Pssssst my cars for sale

Have just purchased an Arbarth, 8K on the clock and first registered Nov 02, so still under warranty. Problem is it did'nt come with a handbook, which makes me nervous of all the gadgets (especially having read about the ejector seat!). Now, in light of all this controversy this is probabley a silly question, is it worth me approaching my local dealer for a copy of 02 Arbarth handbook?

Heck, I will probabley do so out of curiosity in any case!

[?][?][?]

5 door arbarth, grey. I feel good but does anybody notice anyway?

You really need the handbooks, there are two, one BOOK for the car and another one for the Satnav. They are on the thick side! With all the toys you really need them. Would be buggered without mine!
